The crew decided to postpone their final round of incoming head coach previews and discuss the recent events surrounding Aaron Rodgers' contract extension with the Green Bay Packers and the blockbuster trade that involved trading away Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos! 

Rodgers has made his decision to stay with Green Bay Packers, after all. There was some lengthy hesitation as to what was in store for his future, due to feeling underappreciated in recent years while with the team, but money seemingly may have cured all. Rodgers now becomes the highest paid player in NFL history on an annual basis, signing a 4-year, $200 million dollar contract through 2026, but what comes with it is a hefty cap constraint that puts them at the largest deficit in the league, currently. 

On the otherhand, the Seahawks are moving on from Russell Wilson in a blockbuster trade to the Denver Broncos that involved Wilson + a 4th round pick in exchange for 3 players and 5 picks that included 2 1st rounders and 2 2nds rounders. The move came as a shock, considering Wilson still being in his prime as one of the top QBs in the league and a certain cornerstone for the Seahawks franchise. The move also was accompanied by the decision to move on from Bobby Wagner, by cutting the veteran linebacker to save on cap space. 

And the Washington Commanders have found their new quarterback in Carson Wentz, acquiring him in a trade with the Colts that involved Wentz, an exchange of 2nd rounders for 2 3rd round picks by Washington. After a disappointing collapse to close out 2021 for the Colts, the veteran qb has been shipped out to take over for Taylor Heinicke and the Commanders, who hope they can conjure up some of the vintage Wentz magic, circa 2017.

Onto their next slate of NFL head coach previews, the crew breaks down what to expect from the Miami Dolphins' Mike McDaniel, the Las Vegas Raiders' Josh McDaniels, & Denver Broncos' Nathaniel Hackett. 

For Mike McDaniel, it may have been a smoothest of situations to walk into, considering Brian Flores' abrupt departure from the Dolphins' organization, but he will now go from a first-time offensive coordinator with the 49ers to a first-time head coach. It wasn't just the incredible press conference soundbites he delivered for us that indicated he could potentially be a good fit in miami personality-wise; it was the succesful results indicative of offensive dynamism that inspired the Dolphins to take a chance on him. 

And another McDaniel, this time plural in Josh McDaniels, has become a head coach the 2nd time around, this time for the Las Vegas Raiders. His previous stint ended rather unceremoniously with the Raiders (the dude fucked up big time), but could the next time be the charm? As you know already, ONLY TIME WILL TELL! 

And Nathaniel Hackett experienced tremendous success in recent years coordinating Aaron Rodgers and the Packers' offense over the past 3 years that yielded 3 MVPs for the future HOF QB. This time though, he'll have to figure out  how to rectify the long-standing Broncos' issues at the quarterback position.

About the Episode:

The crew begins their offseason stretch, breaking down 3 of the 9  NFL head coaching changes in each of the next 3 weeks. This week, they'll break down New Orleans Saints' Dennis Allen, Houston Texans' Lovie Smith, and Jacksonville Jaguars' Doug Pedersen. 

With Dennis Allen, it's his 2nd time around head coaching an NFL franchise, after his previous stint with the Oakland Raiders that didn't exactly go according to plan. Despite his success, going 8-28 may cause some hesitation about him taking on this position to dig the Saints out from a rut they already have stumbled in due to cap space, especially since the legendary Sean Payton stepped down from the helm. 

Like Allen, Lovie Smith will return to head coaching duties in the NFL after taking on the job with the Houston Texans. Smith previously coached the Chicago Bears, even leading them to the Super Bowl in 2006, and the Houston Texans, but might have his fair share of challenges, himself, due to the roster makeup that currently comprises the Texans.

 And Doug Pedersen returns to head coaching action  to coach the Jacksonville Jaguars after a year removed from his tenure coming to a halt in Philadelphia t. A big question will be if he's learned from his last season collapse to avoid any similar result with the Jaguars and invoke some of the similar magic he experienced when he led them to a Super Bowl in 2017. Is it too early to talk about the top 25 rankings for the upcoming 2022 season just a mere month and a week after the National Championship?...Maybe...But they don't give a shit. It's Super Bowl 56, baby! And we had a heck of a show for you as we get into the hottest storylines to get you prepped for what to anticipate in this season's grand finale! Justin Bell, our former co-host on the OTH NFL Podcast during the early days, was nice enough to hop and join us to preview his Rams in this matchup. We have been absolutely blessed by the Football Gods with half of the Wildcard matchups, all of the Division Round matchups, and both of the Conference Championship matchups. Will it be the same for the Super Bowl? There's a strong feeling there might be, as both teams bolster high-octane level offenses that are expected to put on a show this Super Bowl Sunday. 

Many are talking about what this will mean for Stafford who reps his home town and will even play in his home town too, as the Rams host the Super Bowl this year. But the reason they are talking about what it will mean is not necessarily for those reasons. It's because while he has put monster numbers for the Detroit Lions in previous years, many critics have questioned his ability to be a playoff winning quarterback that is capable of winning the Super Bowl. If he does, there's a strong expectation that a gold jacket could be in store for him when it's all said and done. 

And on the other side, Joe Burrow is coming out, firing on all cylinders in his second year, after a torn ACL, to lead his team to the Super Bowl out of nowhere. No one expected the Bengals to be in the Super Bowl and here they are ahead of schedule, courtesy of Burrow, Ja'Marr Chase, Joe Mixon and co. that have led them to the promised land. But does the luck stop here for them, right before their final test to hoist up the Lombardi Trophy this year? In this week's episode of the OTH College Football Podcast, George and David hop on the mic to talk some Senior Bowl and Transfer Portal News!...Well, after they dug themselves into a rabbit hole of conversation about referees. 

Yes haha, they talked a bit about some of the referees in the world of sports and what our personal experiences were like as referees. For David....let's just say it wasn't his cup of tea....In fact, it wasn't a cup of tea at all, it was more like some sort of concoction from hell for him. But they get into what life is like for referees, including Tony Correntes and Joe Wests of the world, who recently retired from their respective sports. 

As for when we REALLY get into the podcast, they delve into the big time transfer portal news, where Caleb Williams has announced he will be heading to Los Angeles to become a USC Trojan. The rumors had been looming for quite some time that he would be joining his former coach Lincoln Riley, when Riley had departed from Oklahoma, and now we can confirm that the rumors are in fact true. He'll also be joining Travis Dye, who had also pondered about a change of scenery shortly after the regime change at Oregon and will now be expected to have a featured role in the backfield right behind Williams. 

And speaking of USC transfers, this time from USC, Jaxson Dart will be on the move to Ole Miss. That's right! Dart will be taking over under center as the presumed number one starter to join Lane Kiffin and co. in an effort to build on their 10 win season this past year.

The crew decided to change things up this week and break down a couple of huge NFL storylines this week, including Tom Brady's retirement. The GOAT of QBs has announced he will be calling it quits for his illustriously decorated 22 year career under center for the New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. And the Washington NFL Team has revealed their brand new nickname, where they will be referred to as the Commanders from now on! The name change seems to have gotten a lot of negative reviews, but maybe not necessarily the jersey and helmet design. And none of us can be perfect with our preseason predictions, so we decided to shed light on what we got right and what we got wrong. You'd be surprised how clutch some of their correct predictions were and how far they missed the mark with what they also got wrong. Also, everyone has a breakout player and disappointing player to note this season, and the crew reveals just that. Whether it was someone who broke out like an AJ Terrell or someone who fell short of the mark like a saquon barkley, everyone had someone in mind that stood out to them. And the same goes for teams, but universally, it seems the biggest surprise was the Cincinnati Bengals seemingly coming out of nowhere to rep the AFC in the Super Bowl. Only 2 games left in the NFL season!.....Well, 3 if you count the pro bowl, but I don't cuz that shit ain't much of a game with how little they try haha, but only the conference championships remain outside of that. And after a crazy week of divisional round games that certainly will stand the test of time as one THE greatest, if not ONE of the greatest divisional rounds ever, we might be bound to see a repeat in wild finishes.

The Chiefs secondary has been a liability all season, outside of Tyrann Mathieu, who could be out in this game. It will be FASCINATING to see how they hold up against Ja'Marr Chase, who caught 266 yards on 11 catches and 3 tds the first time around against them. The Bengals also returning to the AFC title game for the first time since 1988 when Boomer Esiason was leadin the crew. 

And the Rams are squaring off against familiar division foe in the 49ers for the third time this season. The first two times go to Deebo Samuel and San Fran, but the Rams have been clicking lately offensively, especially based on the spectacle that Matt Stafford and Cooper Kupp put on the Bucs secondary this past week. Will that be enough to take the game the third time around? While the wildcard weekend may have not stayed true to the prefix of “wild”, there’s a strong feeling these divisional round matchups will make up for the underwhelmed results. We’ve got the whole crew on this  week’s NFL podcast, with George, David, Cooter, and Craig to preview these upcoming matchups.

Also, the red-hot 49ers are heading to Lambeau to face a familiar foe in the Green Bay Packers. Their luck could be running out though with their 3-playoff-game winning strek against Rodgers and co. with Rodgers, who’s been on fire himself, being on pace for potentially his 4th MVP of his career. 

Many expect the game of the week to be the Chiefs vs the Bills with two high-flying passing attacks set to square off against each other on Sunday Night football, led by Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen. For the reigning AFC champs, it’ll be telling to see what identity this team has established defensively when they square off against the Bills with everything at stake in the playoffs. 

And last but not least, the reigning super bowl champ Buccaneers will host  the Los Angeles Rams, who played each other earlier this year with the Rams coming out on top.
