Life is like an ocean. Things wash out of a man’s life only for the tide to bring them from the depths in a different form.
The Mechanical Folk, cyborg allies from Jonas’s past, call on him for help. The last time he answered it cost him everything he held dear; but he will not refuse help to those who need it. A troubled young man among their community has vanished. Assuming the youth may have dropped out of school to experience life away from his clannish family and community, Jonas’s investigation soon draws him into a web of secrets and endless deception.
In his personal life, things and people from the past resurface; one that seems a bane that turns out to be a boon, and the other, a boon that turns out to be a bane. However, there is one thing from the past that may hold an answer to the case and Jonas realizes that he already has it in his possession - the secret, enigmatic journal of the young druggist and alchemist, Ralston Manning.
Jonas receives a visit from an unexpected ally, and some needed aid. (At the end of this podcast is the trailer for the next book in the series, The Red Book of Ralston.)

Science fiction noir.
From the depths of space, an unknown darkness comes.
Jonas Johnson is burdened with nightmares. A recurring nightmare foretells that something dangerous is coming but he has no idea what it means. Alone and disaffected, he’s lost his purpose and does his best to eke out a living as an unlicensed private investigator, staying just beneath the radar of the law.
A distraught young woman begs for help when a beloved family friend is missing. Not a shock - missing persons are his bread and butter. But this time things are different. No one is interested in investigating the man’s disappearance. Police won’t open a proper file on the case, people are afraid to talk. Unearthing ominous details surrounding the man’s disappearance, his investigation puts him on the radar of dangerous people he’d rather stay hidden from. Most of all, Jonas unearths surprising connections in this case to his own past.
What begins as a simple job pushes him onto a perilous path toward a conflict between dangerous forces that threaten to engulf human society.
