This week we'll look at what it means to pray for our practical needs in a mission oriented way. We want to pray less about our fears and desires, and more about what we need to accomplish the tasks God has given us. And in the end we find that our deepest fears of want and lack are not so much the fears about practical things, but fears and doubts about God's love. Our natural needs are often spiritual needs.

This week we speak about the longing we have in our hearts for clarity about God's will for our lives. The desire to obey without angst and the freedom to do the things that God is calling us to with a joyful and worshipful spirit.

What does it mean to live a life that establishes what God wants within yourself and the world around you, over and above establishing what you want? It's his Kingdom not ours, so how do we live that out?

Everything starts with "Why?". When Jesus teaches us how to pray, the first of the petitions is that God's name be hallowed or elevated. This guiding principle of giving glory to God helps us order our lives and entangle much of life's confusion.

In the introduction to the lord's prayer, Jesus gives us a new paradigm for conversation with God. In calling God, "Our Father", Jesus takes prayer out of an institutional religious mode, and makes it something familial. You're not a part of a bureaucracy. You're part of a family.

This week we’ll be beginning a series on prayer. Before we jump into a study on “The Lord’s Prayer” from Mathew 6, we’ll give this first week to wrestling with some honest questions!

-If God already knows everything, what’s the point?

-Does prayer work when I’m not sure I believe?

-Why is it so hard to focus when I try to pray?

-What if I just don’t feel like praying?

-What if it doesn’t seem like God is listening?

-How can I break out of shame or failure?

-Should I ask for what I want or do I have to know God’s will?

Jesus tells his followers baptize people in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit - What is that, and why are we doing that? Jake brings clarity to a lesser understood part of Jesus' "departing instructions" to his followers!

In honouring our parents we celebrate the goodness of God we see in them, and we become what we celebrate. So honour your mom, celebrate Jesus, and grow yourself.

Wrestling with Christian Exclusivism:

What do nice inclusive Canadians do with parts of the bible that say that Jesus is the only way(see Mark 16:16)? Unfair? Bigoted? Mean? Or can love be seen in this? If these are questions you wrestle with, either as a believer or as someone investigating Christianity, this will hopefully be of help.
