Our Celestial Road

In this episode, Tom Moore shares one of the most transformative experiences of his life — from his carefree days as a University of Utah football player to a powerful spiritual awakening that completely altered his path. After learning that a former girlfriend was pregnant, Tom faced overwhelming guilt, fear, and uncertainty. His journey led him to a life-changing spiritual encounter after an intense period of repentance and reflection.

Through fasting, prayer, and spiritual guidance, Tom rebuilt his faith, served a mission, and eventually built a large, loving family with his wife Kathy. Nearly five decades later, a miraculous DNA connection reunited him with the daughter he thought he’d never meet. What follows is a touching story of redemption, forgiveness, family unity, and the reality of divine promises fulfilled over time.

In this deeply personal episode of Our Celestial Road, Tom and Kathy Moore reflect on the tragic parallels between two heartbreaking events — the assassination of Charlie Kirk and the Salt Lake City bombings that claimed the lives of Tom’s business partner, Steve Christensen, and his wife’s dear friend, Kathy Sheets, 40 years earlier.

Tom shares how these tragedies inspired him to speak out against evil, urging listeners to let good and love prevail in a world filled with adversity. Kathy provides a moving firsthand account of the chaos and grief that followed the bombings — from police searches and fleeing their home, to coping with trauma as a young mother.

Together, they honor the memories of their lost friends, express compassion for the victims’ families, and testify of the healing power of faith, prayer, and Jesus Christ. The episode closes with Kathy’s heartfelt testimony that “Jesus Christ is the answer” and her call to find strength and comfort in Him through even the darkest times.

Honoring the Lost:
Remembering and honoring those who have passed gives purpose to grief and connects generations.

In this gripping episode, Tom Moore shares a firsthand account of one of the most shocking and tragic chapters in Utah and Latter-day Saint Church history — the Mark Hofmann forgeries and bombings of 1985.

Tom reflects on his close friendships with Steve Christensen and Kathy Sheets, two friends murdered in the bombings orchestrated by Hofmann. Through personal anecdotes, he provides context about the “Salamander Letter” forgery, the financial turmoil of CFS Financial, and the devastating series of events that unfolded — including his own near-death experience, when he narrowly avoided being killed by one of Hofmann’s bombs.

This deeply emotional and spiritual conversation blends history, faith, tragedy, and redemption — offering insight into human evil, media distortion, and the enduring power of forgiveness and testimony.

Key Themes & Takeaways

Truth vs. Deception

• Mark Hofmann’s elaborate forgeries (especially the “Salamander Letter”) distorted Church history and destroyed lives.
• The story underscores how lies — when amplified by media and rumor — can cause real-world harm.

Faith Under Fire

• Despite loss and confusion, figures like Gary Sheets exemplified deep faith and peace amid tragedy.
• Moore’s reflection on eternal families and the Atonement highlights resilience through belief.

Media Misrepresentation

• Moore criticizes how journalists fueled false narratives (mafia ties, marital affairs and financial fraud) without evidence.
• A powerful cautionary tale about truth, bias, and public perception.

Providence & Survival

• Tom’s survival — due to a last-minute meeting cancellation — felt like divine intervention.
• His gratitude and awareness of life’s fragility resonate strongly.

Legacy of Friendship & Integrity

• Moore humanizes victims like Steve Christensen, Kathy Sheets and Gary Sheets, defending their integrity against decades of misinformation.
• The episode restores dignity to names that were unfairly tarnished.
