Politicians Lie Because we Support Them

Remember growing up in the 50’s and 60’s where during school we heard about George Washington chopping down the cherry tree and honest Abe?  Our presidents were people we looked up to and our families aspired for us to be honest like them or at least like those in the stories?  We do not think of politicians as truth tellers and surely not our current president.  What happened and how is it impacting us?  Did you know that lying also affects our health?  We will discuss this today.  For more information, click here:  http://health.usnews.com/health-news/articles/2012/08/20/how-lying-affects-your-health

Las Vegas Raiders Stadium Jobs Flyer

Civil Rights Act and Independence Day

The Civil Rights Act of 1964 (Pub.L. 88–352, 78 Stat. 241, enacted July 2, 1964) is a landmark civil rights and US labor law in the United States that outlaws discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin. It prohibited unequal application of voter registration requirements, racial segregation in schools, employment, and public accommodations.

Powers given to enforce the act were initially weak, but were supplemented during later years. Congress asserted its authority to legislate under several different parts of the United States Constitution, principally its power to regulate interstate commerce under Article One (section 8), its duty to guarantee all citizens equal protection of the laws under the Fourteenth Amendment and its duty to protect voting rights under the Fifteenth Amendment. The Act was signed into law by President Lyndon B. “A gang is a group of good friends or family with identifiable leadership and internal organization, identifying with or claiming control over territory in a community, and engaging either individually or collectively in illegal or violent behavior.  The numerous push factors experienced by at-risk individuals vary situationally however follow a common theme for the desire of power, respect, money and protection. These factors are very influential in the luring process and largely contribute to the reasons why individuals join gangs.”

Memorial Day

The preferred name for the holiday gradually changed from "Decoration Day" to "Memorial Day," which was first used in 1882. Memorial Day did not become the more common name until after World War II, and was not declared the official name by Federal law until 1967. On June 28, 1968, Congress passed the Uniform Monday Holiday Act, which moved Memorial Day from its traditional dates of May 30th to a specified Monday, the last Monday in May, in order to create a convenient three-day weekend. After initial unwillingness to comply, all 50 states adopted the change within a few years.

On Memorial Day, the flag of the United States is raised briskly to the top of the staff and then solemnly lowered to the half-staff position, where it remains only until noon.  It is then raised to full-staff for the remainder of the day. The half-staff position remembers the more than one million men and women who gave their lives in service of their country. Metropolitan Police Kill an Unarmed Black Man

We need to find our collective voice on this and sooner than later. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Force killed a man who came to them saying, he was being chased and needed help.”  He took off running and the police took off after him.  After approaching a vehicle in the street, after leaving the Venetian Hotel Casino in Las Vegas, the police officer shocked the man with a taser.  The man was shocked 6 more time with is 4 more than allowed by the police department.  Following the excessive tasing the man was repeatedly punched in the head and face area by the police officer.  The final move was a reverse chock hold that is not allowed by the metropolitan Police Department.  The man had not committed a crime and was not charged. The officer is on paid leave.  There needs to be a news conference with our specific demands for change.  We will discuss what some of those changes should be.

Happy Mother’s Day!

Mother’s Day is a holiday honoring motherhood that is observed in different forms throughout the world. The American incarnation of Mother’s Day was created by Anna Jarvis in 1908 and became an official U.S. holiday in 1914. Jarvis would later denounce the holiday’s commercialization and spent the latter part of her life trying to remove it from the calendar. While dates and celebrations vary, Mother’s Day most commonly falls on the second Sunday in May and traditionally involves presenting mothers with flowers, cards and other gifts.
