This week Friday Prince William and Kate Middleton were married.  Over 2 Billion people watched the Royal Wedding on television and over 2 million watched it online.  I had not planned to watch it and thought I was tired of hearing the build up.  Like the other 2 Billion that watched it on TV, I was 1 of them.  Just the Royals are more fantasy then reality, what is it about these Blue Bloods that captivates us and why?

The Donald has flirted with a presidential run in the last few election cycles but usually it has been short lived.  Many laughed when he first brought up the ‘Birther’ thing and surmised it was just a publicity stunt.  With roughly a quarter of Republicans not sure if the president was actually born in America, has Donald Trump found the one thing to get him a real bid as the Republican Party’s Nominee?  He said he would spend $700 Million of his own money.  Some have wondered if he actually has that much money in the first place.  Are Main Stream Republicans afraid that his name recognition and mouth piece is going to suck all of the air out of the room from them?

Hooray, the budget is passed!  Everyone in Congress and the Presisent Shake hands and slap each other onthe back and give praise on what a good job that was done but , Really?!

With a looming deadline of a midnight government shut down both the Republicans and Democrats barely avoided it.  Tea Party Ultra Conservatives pushed for more cuts and Speaker Boehner going after Planned Parenthoodfunding.  The President and Senate Reid drawing a line in the sand on Planned Parenthood. In the eleventh hour a deal was struck.  Should we go to a 2 year budget?  Funding the budget is one of the main responsibilities of congress, should both party’s leadership be recalled in the future if the government shuts down?

The Brothers of PHI BETA SIGMA will host a Forum/Debate about, “Abortion in America,” on Tuesday, March 15 inside Drexel University’s Creese Center (Conference Room D). "Our Own Voices Live!" has decided to collaborate with them and help get the discussion going prior to their event.

Abortion is arguably the most controversial and most divisive issue in America today. The debate over whether it is justifiable for a woman to terminate her pregnancy has polarized this nation in ways no other issue has.

Those … in the Pro-Choice corner see access to Abortion as a necessity. They argue that a woman’s right to privacy, and to do with her own body what she deems fit is a right which must be respected at all costs.

Those in the Pro-Life corner essentially see legalized abortion as the pre-mature termination of a human life, and a great ethical and moral concern for all Americans.

There are so many questions: When does life start, Can a person go to jail for causing a women to lose her fetus, what group has had the most abortions and how has it affected that group, what is the impact on the mom,the doctors, the father and does he count in the decision making, if a man wants an abortion and the mom has the child does he still have to pay child support, is this a racist plot, is it OK to use abortion as the primary form of birth control, what is the opinion of women who have had abortions, and the list goes on?

Baby Boomers and the Hip Hop Generation Unite!

February is our nation’s celebration of Black History. It is a time to celebrate a people that helped build this great country. There have been many challenges and successes but arguably as a people, African Americans still are not where they should be. For the last few weeks we have discussed, “What do African American’s want.”

Today we want to explore how African Americans can move further along as the Boomers unite with the Hip Hop Generation. Today’s topic is; “Baby Boomers and the Hip Hop Generation Unite!" “Baby Boomers and the Hip Hop Generation Unite!”

One of the signs of a successful business is that it has a vision for the future, training, a succession plan and an exit strategy. The vision is transposed onto paper into a business plan. This acts as a guide on how to run the business. Within the business plan it will have many things. Some of the most important is how to develop team members for added responsibility, leadership and who will take the owners/bosses place.

For the Civil Rights movement we had the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., but since then the movement has been, for the most, part leaderless and stumbling in the wilderness for the last 42 years.

The Greatest Generation led the Civil Rights Movement to many landmark achievements as the first Baby Boomers were coming into adulthood. Now it is time for the Greatest Generation to step aside and for the Boomers to firmly move into the positions of power in the Black Community. It is also time to pass on their gained knowledge to the Hip Hop Generation. A big step forward will be a leadership summit this Saturday Feb 26, 2011 at noon hosted by Frank Hawkins President of the NAACP Las Vegas Chapter.

This maybe just the repeat of the classic tale of the Young Bull and the Old Bull or is there something more?

Today the father typically isn’t in the home or working and the son is left to be raised by his mother, relatives and friends if he is lucky. Often times hearing the few black men in his life talking negatively about the music he listens to, his pants sagging and a seeming absence of ambition and direction in his life. The male child hears mom talking negatively about his father and most men in his life are not the positive role models he needs. Is it a wonder that the young black male feels alone and devoid of male guidance. Has a lack of knowledge of one’s own history and the absence of nurturing fathers in the home led to today’s youth stumbling in the wilderness?
