From gal-dem, this is Our Place Is Here – a collection of personal essays written and spoken by migrant domestic workers living in the UK. In this episode, we’re hearing from Grace, a member of the VoDW, who came to London from the Philippines in 2013 as a migrant domestic worker. Grace’s personal essay, ‘Looking within: How memories of home helped me travel from loneliness into light’, takes us back to the fondest memories of her childhood, evoking the beauty of the moonlit beaches of her home.
This episode was created in partnership with the Our Place Is Here campaign. Visit gal-dem.com to read the essays in both English and Tagalog, and find out what you can do to support the campaign.
