Welcome to the very first episode of Our Views with the Rabbi and Rob!
Recorded on October 7, 2026, three years after the attacks of October 7, 2023, this episode is a conversation Rabbi Ariel Edery of Beth Shalom in Raleigh, North Carolina, felt we couldn’t skip. Rob Weintraub asks the questions many of us are asking: how did the story change so quickly, and how should Jews in Wake County respond to it?
The rabbi shares his view on the meaning of the word “genocide” and how he sees it used today. He talks about how age-old myths about Jews take hold, why he thinks one conflict gets so much more attention than the other 60-plus conflicts going on around the world, and what he believes we can do in our own lives, from how we follow the news to how we talk with friends, neighbors, and our kids at Thanksgiving dinner.
This is the rabbi’s perspective, and he invites yours. It’s a serious conversation, and you won’t agree with everything in it. That’s the point. Tell us what you think at [email protected].

Our Views with the Rabbi and Rob
What does 3,000 years of Jewish wisdom have to say about your Tuesday morning news feed?
Our Views is a…
Each episode takes on a big question about the world we live in, from elections and Israel to antisemitism, education, and how to live your values when they pull in different directions. Along the way, they connect today’s issues to the stories, texts, and history that have shaped Jewish thought for thousands of years.
It’s educational, and it’s political without being partisan. You won’t get one “Jewish answer.” You’ll get a menu of ideas, the reasoning behind them, and room to decide for yourself. Jewish or not, in North Carolina or anywhere in the U.S., you’ll likely leave with a fresh way to think about the news.
