Mark Dantonio announced his retirement as head football coach at Michigan State University in the midst of more allegations from his former "recruiting guru", Curtis Blackwell during a wrongful termination lawsuit filed by Blackwell against Dantonio, Michigan State, and others. Allegations of NCAA rules violations, and the possibility that Dantonio committed perjury during his hours-long deposition, make the timing of his retirement suspect at best...or is it one big coincidence? Given his age, the current state of the MSU football program, and the exhausting mess that the Blackwell situation has brought upon him...is it possible that Dantonio is just done with it all?

Super Bowl 54!! What a game! Who do you credit with the 49ers' fourth quarter collapse? Is it Kyle Shanahan again? Or is it poor play from Jimmy G-Q? Kobe Bryant had an effect on the world that wasn't fully known until now. Now that he is no longer with us. This podcast was recorded to try and put that in perspective by our three hosts. Dan, Dave, and Geoff grew up in the sweet spot for admiration of Kobe. Those generations before had Michael, Magic, Kareem, or Bill and Wilt. The generation after has LeBron and the new crop of Giannis and others.

Kobe took basketball global in a way that no prior superstar had done. He wasn't without flaws, and we cover that as well. It is hard to find another global star who's death and circumstances surrounding it, had such a profound effect on the entire world. There didn't seem to be an phoniness or pandering to the reaction of his passing that we've see with other major celebrity deaths. That is what makes his death so devastating, yet morosely beautiful in a way.

Morality and Winning. Can they coexist in college football? Dan, Dave, Geoff, and Mike discuss the latest piece by Tony Paul in the Detroit News about the 2016 sexual assault scandal that rocked the Michigan State football program. Taking place just as Larry Nassar's offenses of sexual abuse against hundreds of young girls under the guise of being one of the nation's leading osteopathic physicians for athletes, and gymnasts in particular. His sick mania took place right on the Michigan State Campus for decades. A scandal that implicates the football team is the last thing MSU needed, and head coach, Mark Dantonio knew it. The program has never been the same.

MLB's, Houston Astros have also come under fire this week. In the wake of an investigation by Major League Baseball, the 'Stros were handed the most severe penalty that a Major League team has ever received after being found guilty of using electronic video and photography to steal signs from opposing catchers during there 2017 World Series run. Again...Morality and Winning. Can they coexist?

On the more fun side, The NFL Divisional round was the most entertaining set of playoff games we've seen in years. With Mike Vrabel and the Titans knocking off two juggernauts in New England and Baltimore, did the Detroit Lions hire the wrong guy in Matt Patricia? Slow down. The answer is...maybe not.
