With roots in swing music and early rock and roll, the straight shuffle has been a staple of music for generations. But in the yacht rock era, its kissing cousin, the half-time shuffle, became ubiquitous and essential to the west-coast sound, thanks to masters of the art like Jeff Porcaro, Steve Gadd, Bernard Purdie, Rick Marotta and others.
