Kick Back with VenturedTrails

Outdoor Water Activities

Listen Later

In this episode of Kick Back with VenturedTrails, Casey and Brittney will talk about water activities. But not just the usual. Instead, water activities for adults, people who are past a common level of swimming, meaning you don't want to just go for a swim. Here are some of the best ways to enjoy the water.

Kayaking

[02:17]

There's inflatable kayaks, there’s sit on top kayaks, there's internal kayaks, there's fishing kayaks, combinations of the two. There are portable ones, probably the size of a suitcase.

[03:49]

Just remember to bring your safety equipment. But they have a backpack that those kayaks can fit into. So you literally have it on your back and you could just throw your paddles on there and have your life jacket hanging on the outside.

First time Kayaking

[04:35]

Brittney says the first time they went kayaking was a nightmare. They went with it and brought their six-year-old son with them in the middle of a three-person kayak.

Cool things about Kayaking

[07:26]

You get a different view of things like when the birds are coming down. You're seeing them go into the water where you wouldn't normally see that.

Paddle Boarding

[10:03]

It's a great workout for your core, balance, and swimming. A paddleboard is similar to a surfboard but you stand on it and you paddle. If you're not a pro surfer and you are willing to try out surfing or you don't have a place to go surfing, paddle boarding is a great calm alternative to that.

[11:20]

You can either sit down or stand up on them. It's offset and then works your way to standing up and balancing. You're supposed to sit on your knees and try it and then bring yourself up to it.

Snorkeling

[12:54]

Brittney went snorkeling in Hawaii and she says that it is something she’ll never forget. You got to see fish and the coral in there. If you're not scuba certified or don't love being so many feet underwater, snorkeling is a great alternative.

The best part of these activities

[17:57]

The best part about most of these activities is the little equipment you actually need to bring with you on the trip. Some of them can be rented, which opens up more packing space for you.

[19:12]

Make sure that you have your safety gear with you when you go kayaking or when you're in the water no matter what, make sure you're safe.

[19:32]

Remember that even though it's really hot outside, a lot of the time the water’s really cold. And that can be a real big safety hazard.
