I find it terrible when our approach to sin so quickly abandons the power of grace by reverting back to the law. So often people are given rules to obey or worse still ways to atone for sin instead of being pointed back to Jesus. . .

Why does grace change everything? Isn’t it true love is a much more powerful motivator of human behavior than the law. . .

I want to explain what I mean when I use the term “Outlaw.” Understand… The Bible is clear that the purpose of the law was purely diagnostic. The perfect law of God was given to reveal how far short of God’s glory you’ve really fallen. . .

In several places in the Bible grace is directly connected with the idea of liberty. In the Greek the word used for “liberty” is interesting because it carried with it a very specific connotation. Liberty spoke of a unique legal transaction by which a slave was purchased from his master only to be set free. . .

There is a very vocal group of Christians in our culture who hold to the position that if a freedom afforded by the Gospel of grace offends a fellow believer it is our duty to abstain from that particular liberty. I’ve even heard it asked when making this case, “Do you love your liberty more than your fellow brother?”. . .

I have found that grace is distorted in the subtlest of ways… First, it happens when you begin basing the existence of your relationship with Jesus on a list of things you’ve either done or are presently doing for God. . .

It’s important you know it isn’t the concept of grace that will change your life… What will change your life is the moment you experienced God’s grace through the revelation of Jesus Christ! The power rest not in a concept but a relationship. . .

As a result, religious people are often hyperaware of your shortcomings while being completely unaware of their own. . .

In Galatians Paul takes the distorting of God’s grace super personal. In fact he’s so fierce in his defense of the Gospel that he has no problems saying that anyone who’d dare “preach another gospel” other than grace period should “be accursed” or literally - eternally damned to hell. . .

I’m struck by the reality that there are people who actually want to pervert the gospel of Christ… That when people warp the nature or purpose of God’s grace they are not doing so on accident, but are instead acting with specific intention. . .
