Sofie Formica has slammed a new report which has revealed structural issues with the childcare subsidy.
Statement attributable to Minister for Early Childhood Education Dr Jess Walsh:
“The Government doesn’t tolerate crooks ripping off the Child Care Subsidy and we will always look for ways to continue to improve the integrity of the system.
The Albanese Labor Government has put in place significant integrity measures which have resulted in the highest accuracy rates in provider claims for Child Care Subsidy on record at 96.4 per cent. Before we came to government it was at 93 per cent.
Our integrity measures have delivered additional provider audits, more fraud investigations, improved targeting through better data analytics as well as education and support to the sector. Legislative changes have also been made to strengthen regulation and compliance.
In addition to an increase in accuracy rates, under our integrity measures more than $300 million in savings have already been delivered by cracking down on dodgy behaviour, substantially exceeding targets to date. My department has agreed to the seven ANAO recommendations.
If members of the public know a child care service is doing something illegal or fraudulent, they can provide information to the Department of Education anonymously online via the Child Care Subsidy (CCS) tip-off form | Department of Education.”
