To celebrate the Forest City Film Festival, which kicks off on October 15th, Executive Director Ethan Hickey drops by Outside the Frame to discuss what sets this year apart from previous editions of the festival, what to look forward to with this year's lineup, and more. Then, we run back the recording from the Scream discussion we took part in LIVE at Hyland Cinema on October 9th to kick off their month-long Horror At The Hyland series!

It's Dalton's birthday episode! As such, Dalton decided to give each remaining member of Outside The Frame some good ol' fashioned homework by assigning them each a movie from his personal physical media collection.

To match Mike's taste for controversy and love of the New Hollywood era, he was assigned Peter Bogdanovich's 1968 thriller Targets (7:23). In hopes that a woman-led Technicolour melodrama that defies expectation would align with Maddy's tastes, Dalton assigned her David Lean's 1955 film Summertime (26:31). Lastly, to match Elijah's preference for cool movies that are absolutely insane, Dalton prescribed Seijun Suzuki's incomparable 1967 film Branded To Kill (44:51).

On this week's episode, Elijah, Maddy, Mike, and Dalton dive deep into two of the most anticipated films of the fall season: Resident Evil and Primetime!

First, they discuss some new Star Wars news, which falls somewhere between anger and apathy (1:25) before going right into their thoughts and feelings on the new Zach Creggor film (8:04). Then, they go right into their experiences with Lance Oppenheim's debut narrative film, including their viewing experiences and what they took (or ultimately didn't take) from this movie (17:40). Lastly, the end the episode with a lead-up into next week's episode, where Dalton has provided each OTF member with a Criterion film to watch for next week's episode (52:20). It's TIFF Time!

After a couple of weeks away from the studio, the Outside the Frame members are finally all back to discuss their respective experiences at this year's Toronto International Film Festival. They start by discussing the highlights of this year's festival (5:40) before diving into the best (and worst) movies they saw at the festival (27:50).

With the fall festivals in full swing, is there a more appropriate time to make Oscar predictions for a ceremony that's 6 months away? Probably, but we're doing them anyway!

With Maddy and Mike out sick, Dalton and Elijah are left to hold down the fort. They put forward their predictions for the following 2027 Oscar categories: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Adapted Screenplay.

It's time for another Director's Chair episode, where each host gets to take the reins and host their own 15-20 segments.

Dalton gets things started with his segment, where each member must deliver a movie pitch for the worst sequel imaginable (6:07). Then, Maddy takes the boys through a magical Choose Your Own Adventure segment, filled with action, intrigue, and 20-sided dice (20:03). For Mike's segment, each member discusses a few movies (and actors/actresses) that played a hand in their sexual awakenings (33:02). Finally, Elijah tests their skills with some iconic movie musical numbers--only all of them are played in reverse (46:58).

The members of Outside The Frame are always talking about movies, but do they know how to make one?

To celebrate Mike’s birthday, Elijah, Maddy, Dalton, and the birthday boy himself are tasked with pitching a feature-length film from scratch, guided entirely by a series of prompts Mike has prepared for them. The result? Pour Souls—Outside The Frame’s very first film. Tune in to hear the chaos, creativity, and glorious casting decisions that bring it to life.

Elijah, Maddy, Mike, and Dalton took a trip to see David Robert Mitchell's long-awaited directorial return, The End of Oak Street, and discuss the many weird, fascinating, and extremely entertaining aspects of this movie. Afterwards, they discuss the recurring themes David Robert Mitchell infuses from his previous movies, especially the incredibly underappreciated Under The Silver Lake, which they dive into in deep detail (since seemingly no one else did in 2018).

As part of Radio Western's celebration of hip-hop's birthday, Outside The Frame takes a deep dive into hip-hop's impact on film! They start by determining the Mount Rushmore of rappers-turned-actors (7:16). Afterwards, Elijah puts Mike, Maddy, and Dalton to the test with a game of Guess The Movie From The Sample, where they compete to guess the movie title based solely on the dialogue sampled in a hip-hop song (30:21). Lastly, they close things out by briefly disucssing their respective favourite performances by a hip-hop artist in a film (51:37).
