Hit a major milestone this month: 13 years sober! In a way, this event is no big deal to me. I don't struggle to stay sober. But...13 years is 13 years. No small achievement, especially when considering how much I once loved to drink.

Puerto Rican brothers Osvaldo and Orlando Marmolejos crossed paths with me at a less than desirable moment in each of our lives. We all made it out of that situation but not before we became friends. We became friends because we each realized that there was a depth of thought and a sharing of life purpose in the others that made us fellow travelers. Fellow Outsiders.

No matter how glorious your bright future seems to be, less than lofty stuff will always arrive to slow your roll. It's part of The Game. Learn to adapt and continue working your plan.

“What am I supposed to do next? If I figure that out, how am I supposed to build it? Once it’s built, where am I taking it? What if ‘it’ is more than one thing, or multiple things?” I feel your pain. I think that if you're going through this type opf struggle, it's good. It means that you at least care enough to do a good job.

When you live life as a supporter, you run the risk of helping too much; being too enthusiastic; spreading your net too wide, catching more types of people than you care to.

I got serious about doing whatever it took to feed my family and to survive, as I’ve built out my dream and done my best to help others along the way.

Are you only telling your story to one person at a time? How much more good could you do for those you care about most if you could get your tale out in front of many, and repeat it on autopilot, for years to come?

If my life is to become the way I want it, then I must remain focused on my mission and its work, while doing my best to not cause any harm to those who are hurting all around me, through any well intended missteps.

There is no such thing as “holding still” in the human experience. There is only death and growth. If you always play it safe, you're not growing. You're dying.
