Through the parable of a shrewd manager, Jesus helps us see the wisdom of investing in things that are truly important.

In the parable of the prodigal son, we see a picture of a loving father lovingly entreating his selfish and self-righteous son to turn from his ways and embrace his father's riches. God our father looks at us and lovingly invites us to do the same.

From the story of the Prodigal Son, Jesus teaches that it's often our righteous acts - even more than our sin - that prevents us from coming to God and receiving His grace.

Jesus says that He receives those - and only those - who are sinful and lost. Not only does He accept us in our sinful condition, but it brings Him great joy to welcome and pardon us.

Jesus describes that discipleship involves a cost. Following Jesus can not be on our terms, but on His - and His terms involve complete, total surrender.
