Synopsis: The Psalmist took time to reflect on God’s goodness as the foundation of their praise and purpose. As they considered God’s goodness, they found purpose in the fact that God was their creator, who provided for them and protected them throughout all seasons.

Synopsis: God’s word was vital for Jesus to overcome temptation as well as for Jesus’ ministry. His wilderness experience teaches us that as we prepare for the māoris to which God has called us, we need the Word as well.

Synopsis: Jesus’ journey to proved to Jerusalem at age 12 proved to be a time of revelation of His parents to grow in their understanding of God’s will. As Jesus revealed the need to be in the Father’s house, he as reveled the his parents proximity to Him did not negate their need to know Him more. Likewise God gradually reveals His will and nature to us when we are willing open our eyes to His leading.

Text: Luke 1:5-17 
Synopsis: Zechariah and Elizabeth wanted a son but God wanted a prophet. Their story reminds us that the hope we have in God is sometimes fulfilled in blessings which God intends for his glory. As God blesses us God also guides to be faithful and purposeful as we receive his blessings.

Text: Luke 2:22-32 
Synopsis: God gave Simeon the promise that he would not seed death until he met the Christ. Simeon was a faithful man, who was led by the Spirit and teaches us what it means to be steadfast in waiting on God’s promise. He also teaches us how our celebration of God’s fulfilled promise provides opportunities to bless others.

Synopsis: God's people often lived in circumstances far removed from spaces of power and influence.  When Peter wrote to the persecuted Christian diaspora he drew on the motif of exile to help them appreciate how God was present despite their misfortune. We can have hope when we consider that the God of our exile is the God of the Exodus. The same God who delivered us from bondage can sustain us as we carry our burdens.

Synopsis: 1 Peter 2:18-21 instructs servants to be subject to their masters. They were to live in the pattern of Christ by accepting suffering. But their suffering was not passive acceptance. It was an active demonstration of God's grace by offering the world the greatness gift of salvation though they were considered the lowest class in society.

Synopsis: The narrative of conversion of the Ethiopian Eunuch is an archetypal conversion.  It illustrates what one must do to saved, how God works to save the lost, and how Christians respond to God’s command to reach the lost. In this narrative every person’s need for God and how we respond to this need through the gospel.
