Own it! Part 2

Extreme ownership book report.

We have both read Extreme Ownership by Jocko Willink and Leif Babin, multiple times, so we thought that it would tie in well with Own it! Part 1 episode 38 where we talk about accountability to each other, to ourselves and to God.  In Jocko and Leif’s book they talk about the importance of leaders taking ownership in all things.  We are leaders of our lives and families, so it is an important book even if you feel that you aren’t really in a leadership role. 

COVER AND MOVE

• The enemy is ‘outside the wire’
• If the team fails, everyone fails
• Relationships are the key

SIMPLE

• If people don’t understand, they can’t execute
• Communication must be simple, clear, and concise

PRIORITIZE AND EXECUTE

• You must detach from the situation
• Relax, look around, make a call

• Everyone leads;
• Everyone must understand not just what they are doing but why

DEFAULT: AGGRESSIVE

• Move fast – Seize initiative
• Take the fight to the enemy

INNOVATE AND ADAPT

• The battlefield changes, the enemy adjusts, new tactics emerge
• Technology evolves – you have to stay ahead of your competition

HUMILITY: CHECK YOUR EGO

• Must self assess – otherwise you can’t get better
• Ego is the #1 killer in combat, in business, and in life

DISCIPLINE = FREEDOM

• Being disciplined with high standards leads to freedom:
• Flexibility, agility, and speed of action
