Our next OYE Podcast is coming from a really lovely lady, who is making big steps in her music career these days. She is a regular customer at OYE. Always with a smile on her face, such a sweety! This is a only vinyl DJ set recorded live at Tresor.

For Shaleen every day in life is being accomplished by a constant rhythm. Inspired by the warmth of analogue sounds she found herself in playing vinyl only sets most of the time. Her DJ-Sets are pushing forward, mostly 90’s influenced combined with modern and exciting layovers.

As a resident of the transcendent "We Are Not Alone" events, Shaleen regularly casts her spell over Revier Südost Berlin. Her residency with Seelen. Records finds her a frequent guest at the revered Institut für Zukunft and the legendary Distillery Leipzig, solidifying her status as a techno shaman of the highest order.

Her event series SURD stands as the vanguard of the first feminine/queer movement in West Germany's Ruhr-Area, an indomitable force since its inception in 2016 and still reverberating with defiant energy.

To her, techno isn't just music; it's a pilgrimage to the roots, a homage to its origins that must never be forgotten.

Number 7 of our OYE Podcast Series is coming from a well-known figure in the dub techno music industry. We are very happy to have him delivering a mix for us. Thanks Kenneth Christiansen

Kenneth is the owner of Echocord Records one of the most relevant dub techno labels, which has recently celebrated 20 years of activity. He is also running the Echocord sublabel Echocord Colour, and the label and project Pattern Repeat with his long-time friend Resoe.

Since the late 1990s, Kenneth has frequently been spinning at Tresor in Berlin and other popular clubs and festivals all over Europe. His career in the genre dates back to his time spent working in record stores, running clubs and festivals in his hometown Copenhagen.

Guava is Bradley Hutchings, a session guitarist and composer. As a touring musician, with bands such as Malena Zavala and LION, he has played at Abbey Road Studio 2, BBC Maida Vale, Hammersmith Apollo, The Roundhouse, and Green Man Festival. Next one for our OYE Podcast series is good friend and long time OYE customer Sara Miller. We are very happy to have her on board with such a good mood bringing mix, perfect to welcome summer.

Sara Miller is an Irish-born DJ, producer and sound engineer based in Berlin. Her party series Naive Melodies began in the Kreuzberg club Kleine Reise in 2012, before upping USB sticks and moving to Loftus Hall and STATTBAD. Through years as a product of her own parties and regular appearances at Berlin's legendary Renate, Sara honed her craft for extended sets with genre-bending selections. Over the past years, she has continued to play at many of Berlin's most respected clubs including Watergate, About Blank and ELSE as well as establishing her name across Europe and beyond. Her debut track Orange Sea, released in mid-2021 on the Munich label Permanent Vacation, has gained considerable momentum since its release including support from Roman Flügel and Jennifer Cardini.

Sara’s debut EP “Lunar Theory” will be released in May 2023 on Permanent Vacation. On the EP's four tracks, Sara has drawn inspiration from her broad musical knowledge and years of DJing experience and party wizardry. You can detect influences from classic 90's house, breakbeat, Italo and Acid in her tracks, all combined into a fresh and sparkling result. But music is not the only source of inspiration for this notorious night owl; nighttime and its celestial companion, the moon, are equally important to Sara’s work. So “Lunar Theory” is a sonic journey that attempts to reflect the movements of the moon. Four phases of moonlight manoeuvres written after dark.

For our next OYE Podcast we are very happy to welcome Diego aka Projekt Gestalten with a live session he recorded last year.

Head of the newly minted, queer identifying VRAAA label and a celebrated protagonist on Berlin’s most sexually liberated dancefloor, Pornceptual, Projekt Gestalten is the identity of Brazilian techno producer and DJ, Diego Garcia. Exploring pornography as an artform with the Pornceptual collective for more than five years now, their ringside promotion of events and parties globally has seen Garcia’s divergent agenda encourage and inspire its guests to freely explore their sexuality. It took to a point where a recent Boiler Room in partnership with the collective was deemed too explicit for YouTube before finding vindication on PornHub.

Adorning their DJ sets in various forms of white wedding dresses and baroque embroidery, Projekt Gestalten’s sexual-kinks, queer desire and bold feminine spirit flaunts a unrivaled promiscuity of tongue-in-cheek tawdry that’s pushing techno music and its artistic, sexual appetites that much further. A figurehead within Berlin’s queer techno scene, and diamond in the rough of ‘twenty-tens’ Netlabel culture, Projekt Gestalten’s exploratory conquest of melodic, harmonic and hypnotic sounds is starting to spread around.

Having found pride of place as an established entity controlling soundtracks at risque nightspots and parties the world over - namely making their way through London, St. Petersburg and New York to Sao Paulo and Paris - Diego Garcia’s emergence from the obscure raves of Berlin and its presiding internet culture now sees the artist, with a burgeoning discography and remix catalogue for the reckoning, as an out and loud center stage presence and trailblazing queer, music identity.

We are blessed to welcome our first artist to our new Podcast series. We say welcome dear XDB and thanks for contributing this beautiful vinyl only mix!

XDB is Kosta Athanassiadis – German by birth and in residence, with Greek parentage. His roots are in the central German town of Göttingen. It was here that he began DJing in the early nineties; where he worked in a record shop; where he ran a radio show for five years; and the base from which he established the Metrolux record label in 2006.

For many people, it was at this point that XDB appeared on their radar. He has no shortage of technical skill but it’s his selection that truly shines – putting the music itself at the forefront, letting songs breathe when need be, and delivering plenty of head-scratching ‘what the hell is this track?’ moments. It’s on this that Kosta has built his reputation.

When it comes to producing, Kosta favours a slow and steady work rate, opting to focus on quality control rather than record shop ubiquity. His DJing keeps him in the public eye, but one gets the sense that XDB prefers to operate in the shadows. There’s a refreshing lack of gimmickry to his approach – keeping it low-key allows him to be judged solely on the basis of talent. Arguably, it’s an innate quality – the way he wants to play it; the way that brings him most satisfaction, but it’s helped establish his reputation as an artist of considerable merit, winning the approval his audience and peers, alike.
