The Fayetteville Public Schools Child Nutrition Department is joining the city’s effort to reduce the environmental impact of food service by eliminating styrofoam and reducing single-use disposables. At their meeting Tuesday evening, the Springdale City Council voted 6-1 to approve a resolution that declares the city as pro-life. Alderman Colby Fulfer says he presented the resolution after learning Planned Parenthood was considering relocating to Springdale. The organization closed its Fayetteville clinic in July.

Lottie Lee Holt was born in Little Rock in 1941. She married Airman Calvin Henry Shackelford, left school and moved with her husband to various Air Force bases. Shackelford later finished a business administration degree at Philander Smith College and eventually entered politics. She was first appointed to Little Rock's City Board of Directors in 1978 and became the city's first female mayor in 1987. This is her story.
