Applications are now being accepted for this year’s GiveCamp Northwest Arkansa s. Since 2007, the program has provided hundreds of nonprofits with free technology solutions. The deadline to apply is Aug. 5.

The Springdale Aquatic Center will host a Sensory Swim Night from 6 to 8 p.m Friday, Aug. 2. During that time, the music will be turned off to create a calmer environment for children with autism and sensory issues. Snacks will be provided by the Bentonville-based nonprofit Autism Involves Me .

Paul Robeson was born the son of a former slave in 1898, but after proving his academic meddle, he was awarded a scholarship to Rutgers University. Although he attended Columbia Law School, he turned to a career on stage and screen and singing. He later became an outspoken critic of colonialism and facism and was an active voice in the fight for racial justice. This is his story.

The Arkansas Levee Task Force held its first meeting this month after Governor Asa Hutchinson created the group via executive order following historic flooding along the Arkansas River. We spoke with Task Force Chair Jami Cook, who is also the Secretary of the Department of Public Safety.

The class-action lawsuit, set to be heard Sept. 13 in Carroll County Circuit Court, seeks to block an $18 annual property assessment across the six-county Ozark Mountain Solid Waste District. The tax was levied to pay off bond holders who invested in a failed district landfill.
