An exhibit that includes more than 30 blacklight posters from the 1960s and 70s goes up at the Fort Smith Museum of History today. The images belong to a Poteau High School graduate and current resident, who, along with her husband, ran one of the only blacklight poster publishing companies in the country.

A Missouri-based company has purchased more than 800 acres in Carroll County to quarry limestone. Some residents are organizing to block the effort.

Fort Smith's 200 years of history are on display in the Capitol rotunda in Little Rock through the summer. The images and artifacts were curated by the Fort Smith Museum of History and trace the city's past from the arrival of the first soldiers in 1817 through the 1960s and 70s.

The International Dark-Sky Association has designated the Buffalo National River Park an International Dark Sky Park for strategically working to protect the natural nighttime environment. A Star Party will be held June 29 at Tyler Bend Pavilion from 8:30 to 10:30 p.m. featuring an educational astronomy program and night sky viewing. Binoculars and telescopes will be provided. John Mercer Langston was born in 1829 to an emancipated mother and slave-owner father. He became the fifth African-American graduate from Oberlin College. He later became the first black elected official in Ohio, helped runaway slaves escape north via the Underground Railroad, and was appointed U.S. Minister to Haiti by president Rutherford B. Hays. This is his story.
