This week, representatives from the London-based firm Sound Diplomacy are in northwest Arkansas. They're leading discussions and interviews about the region's music scene. The information gathered will lead to a strategy announced next year.

During an eight-year period, photgraphers from the Farm Security Administration took thousands of pictures of Arkansans affected by the Great Depression. Patsy Watkins selected several for her new book It's All Done Gone published by the University of Arkansas Press. She'll discuss the book at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Fayetteville Public Library.

This summer, North Arkansas College in Harrison announced it had sealed off a section of its downtown central campus facility after mold was detected in an office tower. Exposure to mold spores poses certain health risks according to the Arkansas Department of Health, which offers online guidance and containment tips.

Civil War history buffs living in Greenwood are working to preserve Devil’s Backbone Battlefield. It's a site where Union troops battled Confederate soldiers who were trying to escape with their wagons to Waldron. The American Battlefield Trust already purchased 10 acres of land at Devil’s Backbone in 2008, but now there is an opportunity to buy another 21 acres of the battlefield if locals can come up with a $40,000 match.

Almost half of all northwest Arkansas children are growing up in families with low incomes or combined incomes that aren’t more than $41,560 for a family of three. The new report by Arkansas Advocates for Children and Families also suggests ways to lower the rate of child poverty in the region.
