Levels of pH in the Mulberry River are plummeting. For the past several years a team of researchers led by noted USDA Agricultural Research Service scientist Philip Moore has been trying to sort out why. Moore, a river property owner, is also an active member of the Mulberry River Society which is working to conserve and improve the watershed.

He also is passionate about sharing his methods with others, hosting workshop expeditions around the country, and he recently curated a national photography exhibit during the Eureka Springs May Festival of the Arts.

At the end of June, the modern facade of the former First National Bank building on the Fayetteville Square started coming down. Beneath the facade, not one, but three buildings built in the late 1800s were revealed. The new owners hope to restore newly discovered architectural aspects of the building in the future to open the corner up to more retail space and create a more pedestrian-friendly atmosphere.

The Northwest Arkansas Council issued the group's annual report Tuesday. It calls for more funding for university research and for better middle skills education in NWA.
