This is an absolute masterclass. In just 30 minutes Paul covers off on a variety of aspects of planning and executing your Rebreather dives and how you should think (or rethink) what you do with your bailout. It's mind boggling how much common sense you will get from this (Common sense being not so common these days)
Paul will definitely have you come away with a few answers but even more importantly, asking yourself many more *questions*. Now THAT is the definition of 'provocative' … something that ‘provokes’ you to question how you do things and should you be doing them differently ?
On the Ozdive front Sue Crowe also has a slew of new announcements about the event which is now barely 8 weeks away !
And finally, we have live interviews with both both Paul and Gareth Lock from The Human Diver about their exciting new announcement which just broke hours before we recorded this episode.
Load up !
And don’t forget to share this podcast with your diving friends.
Booking are open at https://ozdiveshow.com.au/Tickets and in the next week or so we will be releasing details of our broadcast quality online version of the show! So those of you anywhere in the world can participate in EVERY session as if you were here in person including Q+A … stay tuned for those details in the next podcast edition and on the socials

Check out the accompanying web page to this podcast here https://ozdiveshow.com.au/News-Details?newsId=44&title=9-Is-there-too-much-safety-in-Tech-Diving-Gareth-Lock
In this episode we are sharing Gareth Lock's intriguing presentation from Oztek 2019 titled "Is there Too Much Safety in Tech Diving?' What a provocative question ! And the answer was ? Well, you’ll just have to listen to find out.
Joining us today to chart our course through the tricky HFiD shoals is Sydney based Human Factors Instructor Mike Mason who gives us some added granularity around the method of HFiD and how you can take those famed in-person courses right here in Australia. Indeed Gareth and Mike are running courses either side of Ozdive/Oztek in October, listen in to the pod to find out all about it. Or see the ilnnks to Mike below.
Sue also had some news on yet even more great exhibitors who have locked in for what you know is going to be a MONSTER Ozdive, as it is pretty much the first of the global Tech diving conferences in a post-COVID landscape. It’s going to be YUGE people !

Sue also updates us on all latest news with the great exhibitors already locked in for October. That means that just like Santa, you can start 'making your list and checking it twice' for whose tyres you plan to kick onsite on the exhibition floor.
M2 reminds us of the big news (if you missed the last pod) That Ozdive has qualified for a special Victorian Government backed COVID insurance policy ! So if the event is cancelled for COVID reasons, you get 100% of your money back !

Deborah Johnston has been exploring and documenting caves all around Australia and New Zealand with the Sydney University Speleological Society (SUSS) for 12yrs. She is passionate about finding, documenting and sharing new cave discoveries - both above and below water.
Her passion for cave exploration was recognised by leading Australian divers who mentored her so she could continue her research underwater by sump diving; where getting equipment to the dives within the caves often involves hours of backbreaking caving, climbing, crawling, squeezing and abseiling through mud with heavy bags of dive gear just to reach the waters edge.
Deborah's main cave diving interest has been at the famous and ancient Jenolan Caves (the worlds oldest dated cave system) which is home to a long history of incredible diving feats spanning from the 1950s to present day. It is here Deborah and her team of 'SUSS' divers have made many significant discoveries by working together on monthly exploration trips.
Sump dives are harsh, deep and technical, little-to-no visibility, with sharp and unstable rock, and tight restrictions; all requiring creative gear configurations and meticulous planning to succeed.
These techniques and configurations are practiced and maintained using deep wreck diving in the ocean as a training ground to prepare for project cave dives.
Deborah is a member of the Explorers Club and NSW Cave Rescue Squad. Her Slug Lake Exploration Project has received funding from the Australian Geographic Society.

In this World Premiere episode, Emily Turton presents the fascinating and tragic history of the HMS Royal Oak which was torpedoed and sunk in Scapa Flow by a German U-Boat during World War II. The ship sunk rapidly taking 834 souls down with her in a massive blow to the British.
Emily is a technical diver, dive boat skipper and lecturer in Maritime Studies based in Orkney - a group of islands off the top of Scotland.
She can usually be found aboard her purpose-built dive boat MV Huskyan. Emily has dedicated the last 15 years to the wrecks of Scapa Flow and continues to champion the WWI German Fleet Wrecks.
The driving force behind the Scapa 100 Initiative, a project set up to commemorate the centenary of the scuttling of the WWI German High Seas Fleet, Emily also organised the HMS Hampshire 100 and HMS Vanguard 100 surveys in 2016 and 2017 respectively.
In her survey and project work, Emily collaborates with a wide group of people and institutions building expert teams of likeminded individuals. Digital heritage is at the forefront of their work which uses underwater photography, videography and 3D photogrammetry to document shipwrecks and bring them to the surface for the wider community to see.
Emily was inducted as a Fellow in the Explorers Club in October 2018.

Diving with the isolator valve closed, breathing from the wrong tank, taking in a mouthful of caustic cocktail, these are the sorts of tech diving incident reports which DAN collects and publishes.
DAN also assists tech divers with decompression sickness, coordinates evacuations, and researches tech diving fatalities to identify potential issues that may need resolving.
In this episode Peter highlights some of the cases divers have filed with DAN ... and asks us to remember them for our own diving safety.
