Today on the 5: The first of a three-part review of Star Trek: The Motion Picture. Today I tackle the first half of the film, which is largely concerned with the rebuilding of the Enterprise crew and the reveal of the ship.

Today on the 5: One of my biggest pet peeves with video games is that so many of them seem unable to handle volume control effectively. Why is it that such an essential part of a game is so often botched?

Today on the 5: Over the holidays I took some time to read a book placed in the Star Trek universe called The Captain's Daughter. I haven't read a Trek book in over a decade, and I had no expectations as a result. My review.

Today on the 5: During the annual wallet smashing Steam sale, I picked up a game called Spec Ops: The Line. I normally have no interest in military shooters, but a large number of reviews citing the criticism in the game made me want to play through it and see what I think. As I've started it, it reminds me why I don't like games like this to begin with.

Today on the 5: During my time off for the holiday, I went through and watched Star Trek II, III, and IV. I've always liked II, but I could barely remember III and have never been a big fan of IV. After watching them as a block, though, I have to say all of the films work very well as a whole.

Today on the 5: As we close out the year, I take a little time to talk about my lack of attachment to things. Is this a case of something that I have in common with a lot of you, or am I in minority in this?
