What does it really mean to take care of our health?

In this episode of Paging Dr. Jow, Dr. Veronica Jow brings her perspective as a sports medicine physician to a thoughtful conversation about health, well-being, and the choices we make in our everyday lives.

With so much information about wellness, prevention, and healthy living, it can be difficult to know what truly matters. Dr. Jow encourages us to look beyond the noise, ask better questions, and think more intentionally about what it means to feel and function at our best.

Whether you're an athlete, a busy professional, or simply someone interested in living a healthier life, Paging Dr. Jow offers a fresh perspective on caring for your body and mind.

  • Longevity Ate Wellness

In Episode 4 of Paging Dr. Jow, Dr. Veronica Jow takes a closer look at our growing obsession with longevity—and asks whether the pursuit of living longer is starting to overshadow what it actually means to live well.

Wellness was once about feeling better, moving well, managing stress, eating nourishing food, sleeping, connecting with others, and enjoying life. Today, the conversation can feel increasingly dominated by biomarkers, supplements, optimization, biohacking, protocols, and the promise of adding more years to our lives.

But is a longer life automatically a healthier or happier one?

In “Longevity Ate Wellness,” Dr. Jow explores the difference between lifespan and healthspan, the pressure to constantly optimize ourselves, and why the fundamentals of good health can get lost amid the latest longevity trends.

The goal isn’t to reject longevity. It’s to remember what all of that optimization is supposed to be for: more years of strength, independence, connection, purpose, and actually enjoying being alive.

  • Silliness Saved Me

In Episode 3 of Paging Dr. Jow, Dr. Veronica Jow shares how an inflatable Hello Kitty costume helped her reconnect with joy during one of the most overwhelming periods of her life.

While navigating the pressures of practicing medicine, running a business, raising a family, and living through the pandemic, Dr. Jow felt exhausted, scattered, and emotionally depleted. An unexpectedly ridiculous Halloween experience made her laugh in a way she had not laughed in a long time—and created a genuine shift in how she felt.

Looking back as a physician, Dr. Jow explains how silliness, laughter, and play can interrupt a cycle of stress, create relief within the nervous system, and help us feel more capable of facing difficult situations. Silliness does not eliminate life’s problems, but it can give the mind and body space to recover.

From wearing costumes and telling bad jokes to jumping on a trampoline or watching a ridiculous movie, this episode is a reminder that play is not frivolous. Sometimes, it is restorative—and sometimes, it can become a lifeline.

  • Recover Better: The Importance of Rest

In this episode of Paging Dr. Jow, we explore why rest is an essential part of recovery, injury prevention, and long-term performance.

Rest is often treated as time away from progress, but the body needs adequate recovery to repair tissue, restore energy, adapt to training, and perform at its best. Dr. Jow discusses the importance of listening to your body, recognizing when you may need more recovery, and understanding how rest supports both physical and mental well-being.

Whether you are an athlete, recovering from an injury, returning to exercise, or simply trying to feel and function better, effective recovery begins with giving your body the time and support it needs.
