great book thank you

An unremarkable whirlwind contemporary romance -- PAINT ME RAINBOWS by Fern Michaels

Everyone says to read Fern Michaels, so I have. My choice of PAINT ME RAINBOWS appeals, because I empathyze with the need to fly after being emotionally scarred. Also, the thought of an artist colony is intriguing. Would the jilted bride arrive at one of those "scandalous communes"? The book summary is such a tease!

Reflecting on PAINT ME RAINBOWS, I am disappointed in my first Fern Michaels novel. Her prose are just not inspiring. When she isn't repeating the same vocabulary, she is using outdated terms and concepts for the contemporary setting, such as "trousseau" and feeding a dog chocolate. And, given the artist colony, Michaels does not take advantage of such a community of unique characters for increased original dialog and plot twists. When the most vivid character of them all is the cook, there is a serious problem. Threading through the entire novel are themes of food and Christmas.

If you don't mind the cookie-cutter contemporary romances, you'll be okay with PAINT ME RAINBOWS. You do get a jilted bride heading who-knows-where, ending up at a Rhode Island artist colony for sanctuary. She pretends to be a writer to receive entrance. The owner of the grounds is a handsome lawyer-painter, a.k.a. the rebound love interest. Prepare yourself for his cosmopolitan ex-girlfriend and her corporate ex-fiancee to play parts in the book. Best of all, Jill, our protagonist, creates a familial bond with the colony's elderly cook.

There were parts that I liked, but...

This book wasn't well written. The writer used the same adjectives and phrases over and over (not as badly as the writer of 50 Shades did) again and it got to be a bit annoying. There were also many questions that were left unanswered at the end. It was almost as if the writer decided she was sick of writing this book and wanted to end it suddenly, so she wrapped it up as quickly (and as lamely) as she could. The male character in the book was also quite the ass and I became irritated that the main character would find him to be a suitable mate. Throw in a bit of sap here and there, too.. The idea of the story was nice, but it was poorly executed. Oh, and let's not forget Completely predictable!!

Paint Me Rainbows

This is a book about a woman and a man who meet and at first don't like each other. The lady was left at the alter because her fiancé got cold feet, so she run from the city where it happen and also the man worked where she worked. The man she meet was left by his girlfriend that he thought he loved very much, so neither of them wanted a relationship at this time, but she stays at his cabin resort anyway. As time goes by they become friends because of his dog getting them together. Things start to change between them and the rest is history. Read the book and enjoy.
