Yesterday just before noon, scanner traffic indicated a training exercise from the fire department on a potential fire victim. It is always appreciated when law enforcement and fire personnel give the public a proper heads up to these training exercises.

Today is Law Enforcement Appreciation Day and it doesn't take a big gesture to make a meaningful impact. Often it's the simple, thoughtful acts that remind officers their service is seen and valued. 

A few tips for showing appreciation might be to drop off some snacks at the local department.

Write thank you notes.

Offer face to face thank you's.

Pay for an officer's meal or coffee if you see them in the community.

Share a positive message about law enforcement with your friends and family and take a moment to pray for officers and their families, especially those working nights, weekends and holidays.

Behind every badge is a person and a family carrying the weight of service together.

Let's be intentional about our gratitude not just today but every day.

A rescue operation took place after 10 a.m. on Wednesday when a male was reportedly in the river and stuck in the mud. The call came from Mitchell South Road. After some ingenuity and little work, the man was rescued.

Trooper 346 conducted a felony stop on a suspected 1075 or stolen vehicle. It was actually a trailer. That was around mile marker 58 on I-80 eastbound with an Oklahoma vehicle. After a short investigation, it was determined that the trailer was not 1075 and was likely double rented by the company.

Yesterday evening, there was a report of a person walking on Highway 71. In fact, several reports came in until finally a trooper caught up with the individual on the west side of the highway by the Nature Center with the individual given a direct order to stay off the highway.

And just after 11 p.m. there was a call for a car versus train accident. County Road 34, one patient trapped in the vehicle, airlink on standby, blood ready to go. It was reported that the train was still moving and Morrill County deputies were trying to stop the train headed towards Bayard. Patient was reportedly alert and talking. Scanner traffic indicates that she may have run into the train with the train being unaware that it was hit. That's why it continued on. Damage was found on the rear south side of a rail car. One female patient in her 40's was taken to Regional West Medical Center.

On Monday, Bayard Public Schools let folks know that they would be participating in a

On Sunday around 8pm, the Scottsbluff Fire Department was dispatched to an open field fire north of Chili's for vegetation that was a flame. Crews arrived on seeing a short time later and extinguished the small fire. Through the investigation process, they determined the fire started in an above ground manhole and was suspicious in nature. The incident is under investigation by the Scottsbluff Police Department. 

On Tuesday after 3pm in Scottsbuf, there was an unattended burn reported at 3122 East 28th Street. And speaking of the fire marshal, he is out and about. Up in Hemingford, he noticed that a railroad crossing arm was in the road and called that into the Comm Center where that was taken care of. You may have seen that post on Panhandle Scanner.

Around 8:30 pm last night, there was a possible assault. A male around 62 years old was reportedly shoved into a wall. He was transported to regional West Medical Center.

Speaking of Gering again, the missing woman, 81-year-old Jane Ingraham, has been found. Scanner traffic indicated that at 8.04 AM at the Nebraska State Patrol Troop E. Headquarters in Scottsbluff, the R.P. stated to come to the southwest corner by the flagpole to get in. When regional one asked for a reason for response, dispatch stated that she can't move. 81-year-old female found lying on the ground, unclear of all the details here, and we do know that she denied medical treatment when ambulances arrived, but sure glad that Mrs. Ingraham is back, and reportedly safe. 

And our missing teen from North Platte has returned. We heard from the parents directly, that 16-year-old Brooklyn Miles has been found safe.

In other scanner traffic, there was an overdue party from Lincoln that was supposed to be back in Scott's Bluff, reported to the state patrol. Trooper 174 found that subject, and asked dispatch to advise the niece that everything was 10-4. The man reported that he was having some diabetic issues but was getting that taken care of, and heading back to Scottsbluff.

Monday night after 9pm, visible flames were seen coming out of two-kiddy court, and the call came in, structure fire, 2 Kitty Ct, Terrytown. Unfortunately, major damage was suffered, however, we are thankful that no one was injured, and that the flames were extinguished quickly. As always, we appreciate the work of our first responders.

(NORTH PLATTE, Neb.) — Authorities are asking for the public’s help in locating 16 year old Brooklynne Miles (roughly 5ft, last known hair color was black). She was last seen by family at her residence on Saturday night (1-3-2026).

On Saturday morning around 8.30 a.m., Rhoda Jane Ingraham, 81, was last seen leaving Dome Rock Manor in Gering, Nebraska. She is missing.

Jane drives a white 2004 Buick Park Avenue. License plate Nebraska, 21 - D499. Approximately 5'2 and 100 pounds may be seen in a wheelchair or walking with a cane as she has trouble with her right leg.

Strawberry blonde-gray hair, typically wears a blonde colored wig and wears glasses most of the time. Usually has a band-aid on the right side of her nose and under her right jawbone. She could possibly be heading towards Eastern Nebraska.

In other scanner traffic, Trooper 468 was flagged down on Avenue I and 15th Street for a hit and run reported as a Volkswagen Jetta last seen on Avenue I. Scott's Bluff Police stopped that vehicle on Avenue B in West 20th Street. The female subject was suspected as a drunk driver and a triple-eye check was run on both her and the male passenger. Monday, January 1, 2026 6:30 p.m.

(SUTHERLAND, Neb.) -- A high-speed pursuit occurred on I-80 involving the Nebraska State Patrol chasing a vehicle, reportedly a black SUV, from Colorado. During the pursuit, one suspect was held at gunpoint while another, described as a six-foot-tall black man, fled into a field. Radio communications were transferred to secure channels, and it was later confirmed that after an hour of search, the suspect was found and arrested.

The passenger of the vehicle surrendered immediately and was not arrested but was cited instead. Found inside the vehicle were mushrooms, THC edibles, alcohol, and drug paraphernalia. The driver did not possess a valid license and faced multiple charges including reckless driving, evading arrest, and possession-related offenses.

The suspect was booked into the Lincoln County Jail in North Platte, Nebraska on a myriad of charges.

Yesterday we posted scanner traffic indicating a gun drawn on an individual running through a field. After reviewing scanner traffic we found that it was a 1082 or traffic stop on a black SUV that was traveling over 140 miles an hour on I-80 near mile marker 110. Trooper 615 initiated a 1033 high speed pursuit and had one at gun point in the field, black male running. Gray shorts, gray hoodie, 6 feet tall. That was the last traffic we heard before they went to secure channels.
