The weekend started off with the Food Truck Festival out at Oregon Trail Park. Several popular food trucks were set up there, and Greg and Stacey Schanaman donated half of all their sales and 100% of all their tips from their Dairy King food truck to the Jackson family. And don't forget the State Patrol fundraiser, August 31st, drive-through benefit BBQ at the Nebraska State Patrol headquarters. And speaking of the State Patrol, let's take a look at some police action from the weekend. First of all, the cows were out on I-80, evidently they're traveling east now, but that caused quite a bit of chaos and several calls to the Kimball County Sheriff. And a quick reminder about the supermoons that you'll be seeing in the night sky starting tonight, look for the infamous Blue Moon. And we had some horses out on County Road 32 and County Road W, and the Nebraska State Patrol was also busy rounding up stolen vehicles. On Friday, scanner traffic indicated a gray 2016 BMW confirmed stolen and spotted on I-80. Then on Sunday, scanner traffic indicated that they had just recovered a stolen Penske truck. And also on Sunday, we had some hay bales on fire, County Road R and County Road 33. Meanwhile, in the southeastern part of the Panhandle, scanner traffic indicated a physical altercation going on in Chappell that involved weapons in the house. Deputies confirmed no access to the weapons, cleared the scene, and they transported one male, 10-15, or arrested to Cheyenne County Jail. Also, don't forget our public record every Monday through Friday when available, with daily Jail rosters, inmate search tools, daily specials from our sponsor Main Street Market, recent arrests and arraignments and court appearances. It's time for Panhandle Scanner News, I'm your host, Brian Hale. It's official... Parts of the Panhandle experienced so much rain yesterday that their weather stations were telling them that it was raining 'cats n dogs'. Meanwhile, Ford Motor Company is again pushing their recall for their dangerous metal objects flying from airbags while driving. Affected vehicles from 2004 to 2014. Further bridge delays as Scottsbluff Police reported vandalism overnight and are looking for your help finding the cement culprit. Wheat Belt Public Power District is reporting a power outage this morning in the Lake McConaughey and Llewelyn area. They're working hard to get that restored today. Check the outage map at Wheatbelt.com.          No Bull. Nebraska State Patrol, the landowner and his son worked in record time to get a loose bull back into the field in under 15 minutes. And according to Scanner Traffic, an automated call from an iPhone indicated a car wreck on Beverly Drive and Pomona, no response to a return phone call. And when officers checked the scene, they reported that no MVA was found and the call was canceled. 27th in Avenue I was busy yesterday afternoon as officers were seen searching a white Colorado sedan where bags and weapons were visibly confiscated. At least one person was placed in custody. You'll see that event there on our Facebook page along with a very nice tribute and remembrance of Captain Ryan Lohr. Be sure to visit our page and leave your tributes there. It's time for Panhandle Scanner News. I'm your host Brian Hale. Let's take a look at what's happening around the Panhandle for Tuesday, August 13, 2024. Sad news out of Scotts Bluff County on Monday morning in the form of three accidents. Monday morning scanner traffic indicated several motor vehicle accidents in the Panhandle. Just before 10.30 a.m., a minor accident occurred on Highway 71 near Stage Hill between a semi-driver and a red jeep. We spoke with a friend of the victim in the red jeep and she's okay, thankful to be alive, but definitely sore. Then shortly after that, a call came in on a motorcycle versus truck accident on Highway 26 and County Road 11. Unfortunately, the calls kept coming in, with tragedy striking on this next one, when 44-year-old Gideon Brunner was driving at a high rate of speed in a white-dodge truck on Kimball Avenue in South Gering, when he slammed into a Ford Ranger driven by J.T. Jackson, recent graduate and son of a Gering policeman. The young man died at the scene and Gideon Brunner was transported to Regional West Medical Center. The young man also had relatives or connections to all the departments locally, Scotts Bluff County Sheriff's Office, Gering Police Department, Scottsbluff Police Department, and the Nebraska State Patrol. Our prayers and condolences for everyone in each of those agencies who are reeling from yesterday's events. For more follow-up on these stories, be sure to visit our page at Panhandle Scanner. Typically, a lot of information is updated in the comments. It's time for Panhandle Scanner News, I'm your host, Brian Hale. Let's take a look at our major headlines and what's happening around the Panhandle for Monday, August 12, 2024. We put out an Aurora alert on Friday night, and sure enough, the skies did not disappoint. We also had the Percy meteor shower as well as the Aurora Borealis. The pictures were captured by local followers of the scanner news. Follow our Facebook page at Panhandle Scanner to check out those cool photos. By Troy Brian, Cheryl Kozad, and Pepper Shrewsbury. Unfortunately, the weather was not so cooperative with the recent balloon fest, with all flight plans giving way to other activities. And again, we want to remind everybody about the bridge work on Broadway. The city offers two major alternative routes. One is Avenue I or Highway 71 on the west side of town, and on the east side of town, you can use the Heartland Expressway just on the other side of the Sugar Factory. Again, that bridge work on Broadway will be ongoing, so expect delays and detours. And speaking of bridges, there was a bad accident on the bridge on 79 Link between Highway 26 and 92 near Melbeta Friday morning. Witnesses reported a pick up with a topper in the ditch and someone in the driver seat, with troopers on scene assisting. And good news came from scanner follower Denise Sanders as she reported that drivers are okay. Lots of prayers offered there during our accidents that we report on Panhandle Scanner. Also, don't forget our public record every Monday through Friday when available, with Daily Jail rosters, inmate search tools, daily specials from our sponsor Main Street Market, recent arrests and arraignments, and court appearances.
