Human trials of the Stentrode, a small brain device inserted next to the motor cortex, has allowed patients with paralysis to use computers and mobile phones with just their minds.

Bec Jordan spoke with Dr Nicholas Opie, CTO of Synchron Australia, and Dr Gethin Thomas, Executive Director and Researcher at Motor Neurone Disease Australia to get an understanding of the device, and how it differs from existing communications aids.

Late in 2021, a new telescope built by NASA called the James Webb telescope will begin its journey in outer space. The telescope will be able to see wave lengths never seen before by its predecessors and will therefore tell us a lot more about the universe.

But how will it do this, what does this mean for science and what will happen to the Hubble telescope? Anneliese Farrer spoke to Madeline Anne Marshall, an astrophysicist from Melbourne University who has worked with NASA, to get answer those questions.

While Northcote golf course was closed to golfers during stage 4 restrictions, the Darebin City council opened it up to the public. Now golfers can return to the course, but not every resident is keen to leave the new open space.

A change.org petition to “Keep Northcote Golf Course open to the public” has reached over 7,000 signatures. Some candidates of the 2020 Darebin City Council Election are promising to turn the space into a park or provide shared access. Golfers have launched their own campaign to protect the golf course.
