Which AI tool is best for creating videos?

After experimenting with a whole bunch of them, Papa D has discovered that's probably the wrong question.

In this episode of Papa D’s Corner, I introduce you to my slightly dysfunctional AI production team and share what I've learned from actually using these tools to create animated stories, training videos, podcasts, and other content.

We talk about ChatGPT, Grok Imagine, OpenArt Director, MagicLight, Astra, Video Express, HeyGen, ElevenLabs, Suno, TakeTones, and Movavi—not based on what their advertising says they can do, but based on what has actually happened when I've put them to work.

Some have been spectacular. Some have surprised me. And some have produced complete disasters—including what Chatty Patty and I now affectionately call the “Astra disastah.” 😂

You'll hear how I use multiple AI tools together to produce my animated series Me and You and Kalamazoo, why OpenArt Director impressed me with a particularly ambitious Search for Bigfoot sequence, how HeyGen created my digital twin, how ElevenLabs helps give my characters their voices, and why Movavi is still the place where all these AI-generated pieces finally become a finished production.

You'll even hear directly from a couple members of my AI team—Chatty Patty and Mila—because apparently my artificial employees now expect airtime too.

The biggest lesson I've learned is simple:

Don't ask which AI is best. Ask which AI is best for the particular job you're trying to accomplish.

I'm not a professional filmmaker. I'm a guy who started learning video production for my insurance business, turned some children's stories into an animated series for my grandchildren, and somehow ended up with an entire AI production crew.

In this special episode, Papa D steps away from the usual format to share the very personal story behind Me and You and Kalamazoo—and why artificial intelligence has become an important tool in bringing these stories to life.

The story actually began decades before AI, when Papa D made up bedtime adventures for his young children featuring a character named Kalamazoo. Years later, those children had children of their own, and the old bedtime stories found a new life—with Papa D's grandchildren becoming the heroes of the adventures.

Papa D talks candidly about using AI, the criticism sometimes directed toward AI-generated content, and why Me and You and Kalamazoo isn't about replacing artists or making money. Without today's technology, these animated adventures simply wouldn't exist.

More importantly, he shares the real reasons he keeps creating them: the joy of watching his grandchildren see themselves as heroes, leaving them something by which to remember their Papa D, promoting family values, and introducing children to history, science, technology, and a world of imagination.

It's a personal conversation about family, creativity, new technology—and a grandfather who is still doing what he did many years ago: telling stories to the children he loves.

One week ago, I started a 60-day experiment to see whether I could build an AI assistant that could do more than answer questions—could AI actually become a useful part of running my business?

Well, Week 1 got busy fast.

In this episode of Papa D’s Corner, I share what happened after I put Opal, my AI assistant, to work.

We expanded Opal’s knowledge, built a new FastTrack training program for agents, launched an Indeed recruiting campaign, updated both BrelandBenefits.com and Breland.biz, promoted the recruiting effort on LinkedIn, and began tying everything together through what I call my AI Headquarters.

Perhaps the most interesting development is automation. We’ve begun creating a system where new recruiting applicants can come in, AI can review and organize the information, assist with evaluating candidates, and help handle the initial follow-up—without me spending my day watching an inbox.

This isn’t an experiment about replacing people. It’s about discovering how much of the repetitive work AI can handle so a small-business owner can spend more time on relationships, decisions, sales, creativity, and growth.

And before the episode ends, you’ll finally hear from Opal herself.

It’s only Week 1 of the 60-Day Experiment, and we have a long way to go. Some things will work. Some probably won’t. But already, my little AI assistant is starting to become something much bigger.

Why Papa D Created Me and You and Kalamazoo Using AI

In this special episode, Papa D shares the deeply personal story behind the creation of the Me and You and Kalamazoo children's series and explains why he chose to use artificial intelligence to help bring these adventures to life.

Long before AI existed, Papa D was creating bedtime stories for his own children, featuring a character named Kalamazoo and whatever adventures they could imagine together.
