In this passage, Jesus tells us loyalty to Him comes above earthly relationships. Believe and hold to His words and He will lead us to a better understanding. In so far as we realize this, we come to know a freedom that is absolutely essential for us a human beings. We are to give ourselves entirely over to Christ. Then, and only then, will be be truly free from Satan who is trying to leverage us using, the people closest to us, the people we love most. Jesus says the cost of following Him is not light, so plan and be prepared.
