  • Lucy Kaplansky – “The Lucy Story”

    Lucy Kaplansky returns to Paradigms to share her new musical autobiography The Lucy Story unreleased & rare tracks, 1976-2023 a fantastic retrospective of Lucy’s musical life going back to when she was 16 years old and coming up to the present.

    Lucy grew up with music, and as many musicians do, in the early years of learning her craft she sang songs of artists who inspired her, so this album includes familiar songs by James Taylor, Gram Parsons, John Lennon, Joni Mitchell and others, along with favorite collaborations with Shawn Colvin, Richard Shindell, and other wonderful artists.

    Lucy and Baruch catch up, and share ideas and inspirations.

  • Banning Eyre – “Bare Songs Vol. I”

    Banning Eyre is one of those guitarists who has to play.  He has to explore different sounds and is drawn to commune with musicians wherever he goes.  Banning is an ethnomusicologist, so he travels far and connects with players, learning from them and sharing with them. He’s played in bands and ensembles, and is now releasing some of his solo music on the new record Bare Songs Vol. I

    Traveling broadens and deepens people, and Banning has embraced experiences that opened him to the universality of music as a means of communication and healing. He’s been involved with the radio program Afropop Worldwide since it’s inception.

    Banning and Baruch discuss the music, and Banning shares some stories of his travels, and of course there is lots of music to enjoy!

  • Deborah Holland – “I Made It This Far”

    Deborah Holland has been making music since she was a child.  She became well-known while working with the band Animal Logic in the 1980s and 1990s. Since then Deborah has been making solo albums.  Her latest record I Made It This Far is 11 songs (plus 3 bonus tracks!) in which Deborah shares more of her life with us.

    In these times where uncertainty and instability have taken hold in the cultural institutions of the United States due to a rogue government, music that shines a light on our own abilities to create, and to deal with our lives, resonates and nourishes.

  • Yuval Ron – Inspired Sound Initiative

    Yuval Ron works with sound in music, in healing, and as a medium for inspiring at-risk youth through Inspired Sound Initiative. He is an internationally renowned World Music artist, composer, educator, peace activist and record producer.

    Yuval has spent decades researching and playing sacred music from Judaism, Christianity, and Islam as part of his Peace work.  Working with neurologists and psychologists Yuval has been bringing sacred music together with neurological research to create music for specific kinds of healing from sleep issues to anxiety to inducing creative states, and more.

    Whether in performance, making music to accompany story telling with film or dance, encouraging young people to make music, composing soundscapes for mantra…the list goes on…Yuval is inspired by a deep commitment to the common good.

    Ghazi Al-Mulafi and Arturo O’Farrill are founders of Boom.Diwan.  This is more than a band, it’s a testament to the ability of humans to experience connection and joining through music. The new record is Live in the Khaleej! It is an excursion into a transcultural space of beauty and energy.

    Ghazi and Arturo talk with Baruch about the inspirations for this music. Ghazi talks about his grandfather who was a Ship Master and a Pearl Diver in Kuwait, and the music that was part of that life, and his own experience diving.

    Crys Matthews has just released their 10th album Reclamation. This is a collection of songs that focus on social justice, love, and how humans can “make it work” here on Earth. Crys is energetic and kind, generous and talented.  The music says “get up and dance” and “feel and think and act!” through the Folk tradition, with some R & B, Gospel, Rock and Blues thrown in for good measure.

    Crys Matthews grew up in the US in The South where she continues to live and love and perform and record, bringing sincere messages of connection and liberation.
