  • snacktime - beauty pageant @ way out weirdo wednesday #3
We were a little busy, so we missed our opportunity to present this recording as a visit from the Ghost of Christmas Dystopian Future, however it's just as apt and we're totally fine with presenting this as the death rattle of 2015 (good riddance).  Beauty Pageant closed out the third installment of Way Out Weirdo Wednesday with a special trio performance (Mr. Ben/Sam/Rick) which came on like an awesome and terrible storm.  It was frigging rad and rattling.
Join us for the next WOWW on 1/6/2016 at the Way Out Club with performances by Patrick Weston (first solo set since the dissolution of Ou Où), Biggie Stardust, Freq E. Steve, Alex Cunningham, and a improv collab by Matt Muslin and David Bell.  Killer first show of the year.  Be there.
Have fun. Don't be dumb tonight.

  • snacktime - monster sized monster @ kismet 11/13/2015
You remember that time when you were a kid, and you found this weird looking caterpillar thing, and you thought "I wonder what this turns into?"  So you scooped it up and put it in a jar with holes in the top, and watched it spin a cocoon, and waited patiently while it pupated.  Then one day you come in the room and see that the cocoon has split open, but there's no sign of any kind of bug in the jar, so you turn around to look and see how it possibly could have gotten out and to where, and then an 8 foot tall nightmare springs at you, spearing you through your organs with four chitinous forelimbs while it's mandibles slice your skull apart and its inner mouthpieces eagerly shred the juicy brain inside?
Well, that's pretty much what happens when Rusty Anderson puts down his acoustic guitar and sets aside his canon of bewildering folk tunes, shedding his "Top Grossing Films of 1984" moniker to unleash the raw animal ferocity of his long-slumbering "Monster Sized Monster" project, which podcast bro Night Grinder has repeatedly and emphatically called "the harshest act in St. Louis".  There's some other acts we could name that would give him a run for his money, but it would be BLOODY sorting out that bracket, and onlookers likely would be permanently scarred.  You've been warned.  Beware of monster.  He hungry.

  • snacktime - david bell & joseph hess @ way out weirdo wednesday #3
You see now, THIS is what you miss when you skip a pterodactyl party.  Joe Hess (Complainerr, Hardbody, Sun Bros., Hess/Cunningham, Wrong Division, etc.) hit some drums, David Bell (Jaded Evil Lambs, Fry 13, Anhydrous Man, Ventriloquim, Paradoxal Pterodactyl, etc.) processed said drum hits and provided additional synthesis.  Special guest appearance by a suicidal xmas ornament.  Hope you asked Santa for a new stereo this year, because this shit right here is about to crush your speakers.  Thanks as always to Bob & Sherry at the Way Out Club.  Come start the new year right on January 6, 2016 for Way Out Weirdo Wednesday #4, featuring Biggie Stardust and Patrick Weston.  More acts to be announced soon, keep an eye on the PP facebook for details.

  • snacktime - the icebergs
The blurb that The Icebergs sent us was "We are The Icebergs and we are a St. Louis-based experimental band. We fuse noise, trip-hop, industrial, jazz, and more into bite sized bits and choking hazards for your aural enjoyment."
We'll go a step further and note for the record that the band was Brad Schumacher, Austin Case and Rob Rosener, and they completed recording their debut album shortly before disbanding when Brad moved to Denver last summer. A little more than a year later, the mixing and mastering and website building is complete, and has been launched for public consumption. To celebrate, a listening party was held at Dingus's house this past Sunday while Brad was in town on tour with his project Night Grinder, and each member selected a song from the record to share with us in this snacktime. The three songs presented here are (in order): "The Ballad of Prancing Rat", "Dead Names", and "Under The Iceberg". The masterfully crafted and sensitively mixed full 9-song album can be had for $7, along with lots of bonus material and a full bio, at their website, http://www.theicebergsband.com/ also check out their facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/theicebergsband/ and look for a new project from Rob and Austin sometime in 2016. But for now, dig into this little treasure. Strong contender for STL recording of the year. Don't sleep on it.

  • snacktime - mirror fears
Denver based electronic artist Kate Warner aka Mirror Fears specializes in smart, noisy, dark ambient club bangers.  Little surprise then that she found a kindred spirit in the similarly minded Denver transplant/STL ex-pat/once and future PP curator Brad "Night Grinder" Schumacher.  The two are taking their acts on the road over the next couple weeks, with stops in Kansas City, St. Louis, Altamont, Dekalb, Chicago, Milwaukee, Madison, and Minneapolis.  To celebrate, here are a couple of her tunes, a studio track "Digest 1", and "Cecile, Man", which was recorded live on 88.5 KGNU on 10/26/15.
As a special treat, if you attend the St. Louis show at Kismet Creative Center this Friday (11/13), not only will you get to take in sets by Mirror Fears, Night Grinder, Catholic Guilt, Monster Sized Monster, and Sean Ballard, but Dingus will also be there DJing ALL NEW NEVER HEARD episodes of Paradoxal Pterodactyl between sets.  Bet you thought we were bullshitting when we said there was new isht coming, NOPE, we were just saving it for a special occasion.  They'll be released into the feed over the coming few weeks, but if you want to watch them hatch for yourself, be there.  Who knows, maybe you'll even score an invite to the private listening party for the long-awaited release of the Icebergs album/website at Dingus's crib this weekend.  AND STILL MORE ANNOUNCEMENTS TO COME.  CAW, MUTHAFUCKA.
More Mirror Fears at: http://mirrorfears.bandcamp.com/Night Grinder is still at: https://nightgrinder.bandcamp.com/FB page for tour info: https://www.facebook.com/events/153717848310775FB page for STL show: https://www.facebook.com/events/1102535103110114/

  • snacktime - ghost ice @ blank space 9/11/2015
Catching a Ghost Ice set always feels like you caught the most elusive Pokemon.  You find something so cool that you end up patting yourself on the back just for being in the right place at the right time.  And then POOF! it's gone, just a memory, and you're left standing there staring blankly at Jeremy Kannapell, and he's like "what?"  Well not this time.  Thanks to recent advances in spirit audiography, we have pulled this psychic imprint from the Tü Fest kickoff show at Blank Space out of the aether (ok, Dingus's overly full SD card, actually), and hereby submit it for your perusal.  Recommended listening for the easily possessed and the adventurous comatose.
