This week we discuss what is generally considered the most active part of  the asylum, the fourth floor. Once the quarters for staff and later the drug and alcohol wards, there is quite a bit of reported activity in the area. From the relatively good-natured activity of the entities in Ward T to the much more darker and menacing activity on Ward R join us as we discuss one of our favorite locations. Pennhurst Home for the Feeble Minded and Epileptic first opened it's doors in 1908, and later became known as Pennhurst State School.  While originally started with good intentions, it spiraled downwards into an overcrowded, understaffed, and hidden away location, where those deemed mentally unfit by the courts, or dropped off by their families, could be hidden from the eyes of society.  Pennhurst was closed in 1987, after the courts found it to be negligent in the caring of the mentally ill, and in fact detrimental to their well being.  Now, it stands as a silent tribute to times best forgotten, but haunted with residents who locked away in life, continue to be locked away after death.  Tonight, Mara Ciervo will join with us: nn expert on Pennhurst, she will discuss this incredible location, as well as its resident haunts.  Are you ready to enter the Asylum?
