This video details the use of bedside ultrasound imaging and a phased array probe to evaluate cardiac structures and health, especially when evaluating left ventricular contractility and investigating for paracardial effusion. Ultrasound clips from a variety of patients are compared to show how cardiac ultrasound can be used to rate left ventricular contractility from good to poor. The parasternal long axis view of the heart provides physicians with a great deal of information regarding a patient's condition, which can be instrumental in emergency medicine.
