We sat down thinking we might talk about lighter stuff—like the local shelter shutting down, or how we all seem to call the same things by different names. Visiting the family, paying respects, going to the funeral… it's all the same dance with grief, just dressed in different language. We talked about how sometimes the best way to support someone is just being there—no advice, no words, just presence.
But the conversation didn’t stay there.
It shifted—to teenage rage. To a kid who won’t come home. To the FSU shooting. And to the gut-punch reality of how fast society splits itself into sides, hashtags, and hot takes. The kind of polarization that makes grief political, and trauma performative.
We didn’t plan to go there. But we did. And maybe we needed to.
