  • With Love and Tomatoes, Part 1
23, With Love and Tomatoes, Part 1

Missouri author Cindy McIntyre spends some time with me on today's episode. This is part 1 of 2.

Cindy is Parentless and explores both of her parents lives and their deaths. Cindy has used her experiences to put magic into the world in the form of her books, which can be purchased on Amazon.

Cindy shares about her experience with a few "signs" over the years, what led her to begin writing letters to her parents and then eventually writing her books.

Cindy's mother passed away soon after Thanksgiving, so the holidays are difficult for Cindy. Despite her aversion to poinsettias, she wishes it could be Christmas all year! It's this outlook on life and the will to continue going that has helped Cindy battle her grief and turn it into something that may help others.

    Cindy's Books:

    Eulogies Unspoken: Stories of Worth
Caring for Dad: With Love and Tomatoes
Love at the Center of Grief

Follow her on instagram for more info, and her books can be purchased on Amazon.com

Katy Dolle is a lot of things, including crying behind her sunglasses after a rough therapy session or two. She's also a filmmaker and actress based in LA, and most recently has started her own mental health podcast, Crying Behind Sunglasses.

Katy discusses the loss of her dad, and the impact it had on her life. Her father made the choice to leave their family when she and her brother were little. After dealing with this initial loss and abandonment, she had planned to get back in touch with her father after she turned 18 - but that chance was taken from her when her father passed away due to effects of alcoholism.

Katy takes us through her coping mechanisms, her career, and her family life. Be sure to check out her short film on Amazon, We'll Never Make It, as well as her work with the #finddancingman campaign.

  • She Was Coquette
    20, She Was Coquette

Martine Jean is a Haitian-American filmmaker, producer and podcaster. She has spent time in Florida, and practiced law in Ohio, but eventually gave way to the warmth of Sunny California, where she now calls home.

Martine knew her mother. She even lived with her at one point in her life. But it was as an adult in the U.S., and not as a child in Haiti. Martine did not experience the nurturing side of her mother (Veronique) like others were able to. Every Mother's Day, Veronique's friends reach out to Martine and share their memories of Martine's mother with her. This sounds like a kind thing to do, however Martine has to live with the knowledge that her mother had the ability to be nurturing to others and not her own daughter.

Despite this daunting knowledge, Martine is free. She's free because she has forgiven herself and she has forgiven her mother. "It is what it is," and what it is is not Martine's fault. She has created a successful career in L.A., a feat in itself. She exhibits features of her mother daily, in her taste for coffee and her usage of perfume, both of which continue to be helpful in preparing Martine for a hard days work.

Martine shares some insights on how her job as a producer has changed, and what challenges Covid-19 brings to the world of reality TV. Martine's podcast, Film Bug, explores film producers and their experiences, it's a must-listen for an inside look at some of your favorite shows and movies! Welcome to Hawaii, where Antonia Agbannawag‘s smile shines so bright, you wouldn’t guess she keeps a playlist called, “Crying on Purpose,” and sometimes intentionally cranks the volume on the angriest sounding music she can find.

Her father, lovingly referred to as “Cons” by his friends and fam, was a hard working man that wanted the best for his family. He set a great example and left an incredible physical void in the lives of those who knew him when he suffered a massive heart attack when Antonia was just 8 yrs old.

Antonia shares her journey with us, what she's learned, and how she has now turned to helping others remember their loved ones with her new business, The DL Company.

Antonia’s advice: Find those bright spots, and hold on to them, and celebrate them.
