Parents as First Disciples

God has entrusted parents with the sacred role of being the first disciples in their children’s lives. Before the church, school, or society speaks into their hearts, it is parents who lay the foundation of faith. Deuteronomy reminds us that discipleship is not a one-time lesson but a lifestyle—woven into daily rhythms of family life. We see this truth in the life of Timothy. Paul commends the faith that first lived in his grandmother Lois and his mother Eunice (2 Timothy 1:5). Their teaching and example prepared Timothy to become a bold leader in the early church. His faith didn’t begin in the synagogue or with Paul; it began at home. As parents, every meal shared, every bedtime prayer, and every car ride conversation becomes an opportunity to impress God’s truth on our children. Discipleship is caught as much as it is taught—our children learn not only from our words but also from how we live out our faith.
