"Incoming! Female, early forties, motor vehicle accident." Carrie the head nurse shouted from her station.
"I'll take her." I said as I walked towards the emergency entrance where I knew the ambulance would arrive any minute.
My shift at Woodvale Grove hospital had just started and she was going to be my first patient for the day.
"Good morning Doctor Hernandez, surprised to see you here this early."
Diane, my colleague, said as she joined me.
"What is that supposed to mean?"
"Isn't your rich dad friends with Mr Broth the hospital director? I heard he's the reason you got the job. You don't have to work hard like the rest of us."
Clearly, Diane wasn't my biggest fan.
"Come on Diane, if you keep harassing me like this I'll start to think that you like me. You know all you have to do is ask me out for dinner." I winked at her and her cheeks turned pink.
The wailing sound of an ambulance siren got our attention. A few seconds later, the ambulance doors opened and out came two paramedics and my patient.
"Ma'am can you hear me? What's your name?" I asked her after the paramedics briefed me on her condition.
