This week's podcast is the recording of Park Avenue Baptist's first online worship. We used Zoom to connect and each invited each other into our homes. Marthame Sanders reads Matthew 4:1-11 and then we hear Pastor Darci preach "Lean into the Wilderness."

In this final sermon of Black History Month we hear from our own congregant, Rev. Keith Menhinick. Naretha Timberlake leads us in our "Centering Down" Moment by reading an excerpt from another piece by Howard Thurman entitled, "The Sound of the Genuine." Pastor Darci Jaret reads the scripture of the transfiguration of Jesus from Matthew 17:1-9. Then we hear Rev. Keith give a stirring message of listening to our ancestors and honoring the legacy of those who came before and who don't fit in the binary and who are not white.

Then we receive a lovely gift of dramatic interpretation, written by Rev. Amina and performed by Naretha Timberlake, Justin Anderson and Aaron Lamont. 

This second Sunday of Black History Month we hear a word from Rev. Stephanie Milton, who preaches from Isaiah 58:1-12, which is read by Myles Markham. Rev. Stephanie brings an honest message of showing her true self in order to become a true "mender of broken walls," and with this message Rev. Stephanie convicts us all to grow into the call of God. Listen with us!

In this episode Park Avenue begins a new sermon series to celebrate and affirm Black History, called “Un-Ordinary Time”. Preachers will draw from the lectionary texts for the liturgical season of Ordinary Time and integrate themes of Black history, revolution, joy, excellence and resistance with the true liturgical sense of Ordinary Time, which is intended to be a time for learning and implementing lessons of the seasons.

This episode features a reading of Howard Thurman's piece, "The Sound of the Genuine," read by Daniel Bass. Scripture reading by Marcus Foster of Genesis 12:1-3. Then Pastor Henra preaches a sermon entitled, "Bless with Your Blessing."
