As we've seen, God's plan was to form Abraham's descendents into a 'great nation' and through them to bring 'great blessing' to all people. That blessing would be Jesus Christ, a Saviour for the sins of the world.

As we've seen, God's plan was to form Abraham's descendents into a 'great nation' and through them to bring 'great blessing' to all people. That blessing would be Jesus Christ, a Saviour for the sins of the world.

Despite all the ways in which God gave direct help and guidance over the years. The Israelites became uncomfortable with God's leadership style; He absoultely refused to let them worship other gods or partcipate in all things that went with it. Instead, they wanted a king 'like all the other nations'. On the surface, this didn't seem such an outrageous request. But behind Israel's desire for a 'normal king; was a rejection's of God's rule over them. It's the same choice we face today: to follow King Jesus and be a part of God's Kingdom, or to go our own way.

The story of David being promised by God an 'everlasting house' provides a major insight into a major theme of the O.T - often called 'royal ideology'. God will watch over the line of David and from it fulfil and confirm the promise made through Eve and the Patriarchs. 'Great David's greater son' will come in the flesh and His house and kingdom and throne will endure and be established forever. That God will do it through the offspring of David - some of whom were fare from God's good 'kingship pattern' - is an evidence of the expansive promise and grace of God who is able to do, 'immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine.'

By looking at the Book of Genesis, we see that the event of Christmas has its roots in the nature of God and in His dealings with Humanity.
