I. Gods salvation is all of grace.

II. Gods salvation turns distress from a punishment into a gift of grace.

III. Gods salvation is unto dwelling with Him.

IV. Gods salvation is unto glorifying Him.

V. Gods salvation is secure and He desires that we would rest in that security.

In what ways did Hezekiahs illness and recovery reflect the situation of Jerusalem under the Assyrian threat?

How did Hezekiah respond to Isaiahs report of his illness?

Why did God answer Hezekiahs prayer?

What are we saved from? What are we saved for?

In what particular ways can suffering test our faith? In what particular ways can success test our faith?

Why did Hezekiah fail to secure a lasting hope for his people after his own death?

Why was Jesus able to secure a lasting hope for His people?

How do the various stages of Jesus life and ministry add to our assurance that He is able to offer us a perfectly secure salvation?

In what seasons of your life might you say you are most tempted to take your eyes off of Christ and put them on yourself?

Do you feel the assurance of knowing your salvation is secure in Jesus? When has that assurance been most tested?

12. Describe how these chapters follow Isaiahs typical pattern of ultimate promises and "interim fulfillments. What promise to the Church is God proving with these events?

1. The Summary of history: salvation or destruction by the Lord (Isaiah 33:1-12)

2. Zion sees and grieves over her sin, and then sees and enjoys the beauty of her King (Isaiah 33:13-24)

3. Gods permanent wrath on the nations will be satisfy His justice (Isaiah 34)

4. The Redeemer brings weak people to Himself in Zion with great gladness (Isaiah 35)

1. The Righteous Son of David will rule over eyes, ears, mouth and heart. Isaiah 32:1-4

2. In His kingdom, honour will be honoured rather than fools and scoundrels. Isaiah 32:5-8

3. His Reign exposes counterfeit rest and peace. Isaiah 32:9-14

4. The crucified Lamb of God was alone worthy to send the Holy Spirit and give true rest and peace. Isaiah 32:15-18

5. Your hope shapes your pleasure. Isaiah 32:19-20

1. Which two Sons of David was Isaiah referring to in verse 1?

2. Will this King be the only one living righteously in the kingdom? How do you know this from the text?

3. How will this King reign in a more incredible and powerful way than other kings? (Hint: internal)

4. How is what is honoured in Christs kingdom different than what the world (and therefor the church) often honours? Why is what Christ honours better?

5. How in Isaiahs day were the counterfeit rests of the people exposed? How will that be done ultimately?

6. What are some common counterfeit rests?

7. Why was Christ Jesus and not Hezekiah able to fulfill this beautiful prophecy to give the Spirit of God and the accompanying rest and peace with God? (Hint: John the Baptist)

8. What are the two options for kingdoms which are presented in verses 19-20? How does your future delight shape your current delight?

1. Gods watchman will announce that Babylon, the city of the world, will fall along with its idols

4. Gods strikes on the nations to turn eyes away from idols and onto His Son

5. The Lords invisible hand is at work in the furthest reaches of the world and with perfect timing destroys false hopes and fears and brings multi-ethnic tribute into Zion

6. Gods typical way of destroying the hopes and fears of the world

7. Davids multi-ethnic family: the people, the work, and the inheritance of God

8. Interim fulfillment: Isaiahs, Egypts, and Davids coming nakedness

1. What was the broken rod which the Philistines were gloating over? Why should they not have gloated? Which story in Exodus is he using to describe this?

2. Why is Zion a safe place to find refuge? Who can find refuge there?

3. What kind of refuge were the refugees of Moab to receive from Zions people? Why did most of them not receive it?

4. When you examine your heart, which error would you be prone to fall to when you are confronted with your sin: cost too high or cost too low?

5. Where in the Moab passage does God show" that there is no other salvation than in Zion with the Son of David?

6. Where in chapter 17 is Gods purpose in His dealings with the Nations

7. What does chapter 18 tell us about Gods timing? What is the purpose of this, and what does Paul say about Gods timing?

8. Chapter 19 gives a regular pattern which God uses to shame the fears and hopes of cultures and nations which do not know Him. Which can you point out, and how has God used these to refine your hopes and dreams and fears?

9. The second half of Chapter 19 is shocking. Can you list the blessings of believing Egyptian, Assyrian, and Israelite people in the days after the Messiah comes? Which of those blessings is one you regularly treasure? Which ones have you tended to neglect?

10. Which are the three interim fulfillments in chapters 14-20? Can you describe the purpose of interim fulfillments?

11. In what way does the nakedness of Isaiah and Egypt demonstrate our need for the Gospel of Christ?
