Pleasures are those things that God has made that we naturally enjoy, that satisfy our minds and bodies
When pleasure becomes an idol, we become enslaved to it, and that enslavement has terrible consequences:
Our enslavement to pleasure makes us unable to carry out the work God gives us to do
Our enslavement to pleasure lowers our guard against sin
We will not be satisfied by any pleasure unless our greatest pleasure and satisfaction are found in God alone
The greatest delight in God and His creation is only possible through Jesus, who Himself becomes the greatest pleasure to us

June 18, 2017Peace With Each Other is Only Possible When We are Wholly Devoted to God
James starts by looking at a problem taking place in the church: quarreling and fighting. He digs down to expose the root of that problem, that the passions of the people in the church put them at odds with the passions of others. This exposes the real problem, that they are trying to love the world and worldly things as well as God. After James has exposed this issue in their hearts, he calls them to repent and receive God’s grace.
