To be a Christian is both an impossible task and a simple one. It's impossible because there's nothing we can do to earn God's approval, and yet, all we need to do is receive what God has already earned for us through Jesus Christ. In Luke 18v9-17, Deacon Herbert Lin teaches how our relationship with God requires a posture of humility, similar to the tax collector in the passage and unlike the Pharisee who sought to justify himself before others. This tension resolves in acknowledging our inability while trusting in God's complete sufficiency, just as Jesus affirms when he declares the kingdom belongs to those who receive it like a little child.
