Let us keep our eyes on the cross and remember both the seriousness of sin and the depth of God's love who amazed the world by sending his Son to conquer sin and save us.
God commanded Israel to destroy the "high places" when they conquered the land of Canaan, but they didn't. Generation after generation suffered because vestiges of sin were permitted to remain and tempt.
Being a Christian is about being a dwelling place for the Lord, a temple in which he is glorified. Being a part of a congregation of Christians (as well as the world-wide population of Christians) is about being living stones that magnify God as they are added to the great house of God that grows higher and grander with each new soul; a spiritual house that continues to stand tall and strong and gloried, pointing others to God.
In view of God's mercy, we should be merciful to others. This lesson puts forth God's own lovingkindness to us as the greatest motivation for not only loving the Lord with all our heart, soul and mind, but also our loving neighbor as ourselves.
