Jesus is the Door to the sheepfold of God. To enter the fold, one must place their faith in Christ. Jesus is also the Good Shepherd who heeds, feeds, and leads the sheep-saints for all eternity. When God’s Word is read and/or spoken, the Good Shepherd is calling for His sheep and His sheep come to His voice.

Jesus Christ is the Light of the world! To some that is great news; He shines a path for us to walk in. But to others, His light shines so brilliantly that it blinds them from seeing their sins. Which are you?

A true disciple of Christ abides in His word. Discipleship includes: believing God’s Word, seeking to glorify His name, and longing for His promised return.

At the Feast of Booths, Jesus made multiple messianic claims. The first was at the “Water-pouring ceremony” where He told all who thirst to come and drink! The second claim Jesus made was at the “Illumination ceremony” where He told them He was the light of the world! Jesus is still the light of the world and if you follow Him you will receive eternal life. 

The biblical account known as “The Woman Caught in Adultery” is actually a trial against Jesus. In this story, Jesus masterfully flips the accusation on its head and calls out the sin of the Scribes and Pharisees. After they exit, Jesus lovingly rebukes the woman and charges her to sin no more. Which people are we more like? The Scribes and Pharisees, or the woman caught in adultery?

At the Feast of Booths, Jesus invited the Jews to drink from the fountain of life. His words caused division between the people; some believed and others didn’t. Today, His invitation is all the same, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink.”

Intellectual knowledge of God and experiential knowledge of God are not the same thing. Jesus spent the majority of His remarks from John 7 poking holes in the hypocrisy of the Jew’s. They professed to know about God, and yet didn’t know Him at all. In order to know God, you must have a right relationship with Christ. 

Six months after the Passover, Jesus was expected to return to Jerusalem for the Feast of Booths. While awaiting His return, the people grumbled and muttered amongst one another asking, “Where is He?” And “Who is He?”

Jesus Christ is the provider of our salvation — (through faith and feasting on the Bread of life).

He is also, the protector of our redeemed souls—

Christ provides us with the means for salvation, and then protects us from ever losing it.

Last week we learned that Jesus is our Provider and our Protector.

In this week’s text we looked at three statements He makes in His “Bread of life discourse,” where He says I AM, I will, and You must. 

I AM the Bread of Life,

I will satisfy your souls,

You must behold and believe.
