PART 1Last year we saw the Black Lives Matter movement shine a light on the treatment our first nations people endure in Australia. We have seen this movement spread into all corners of the internet with it now becoming a pop culture “trend” to stand in solidarity online, even though some in-person actions suggest the opposite.
Today I sat down to chat with Gamilaroi and Dunghutti woman, Marlee Silva about her story and experience growing up in Australia, the importance of allyship and her thoughts on performative activism. This interview was such a pleasure and I would like to personally thank Marlee for being so open and honest with her thoughts and opinions.
Due to the length I have decided to release this in two parts! Today’s part one will focus on her journey growing up in Australia, the challenges she faced in our education system and how she forged a career as one of Australia’s most influential young storytellers.
I hope you enjoy this as much as I did.
