At every Passover meal 4 cups of wine were shared around the table. Each cup represented a part of God's promise to the Hebrew people before the first false god of Egypt fell. But this Passover Jesus take the 3rd cup and tells them that this cup doesn't just represent 1500 year old covenant it points to a new covenant - not instituted through the blood of cattle, but through the blood of the King. And then Jesus does something else, He leaves the table before the 4th cup is offered - He leaves the meal unfinished...
